What's the oldest coin in your wallet right now?

Indian 1 pice (i.e. paisa) from 1947.

Nice! Isn’t that the year of Indian independence? I’m guessing that’s why you keep it?

Exactly right on both points.

Plus it’s pretty!

Ditto. Must have been a good year for 'em.

1977 quarter.

1930 and 1944 wheat head pennies, and a 1954 silver dime. But those are for my collection. Regular change, the oldest I have is a 1967 dime, which I’m about to go put in a vending machine

Do US vending machines still take dimes? On my last visit I only recall using quarters and dollar bills.

1966 quarter, which is less worn than several of the much newer coins.

I actually have no coins in my wallet at all, just at the moment.

Got rid of my US change, used my Canadian coins on the toll, and haven’t gotten change since then (or paid for anything in cash.)

Coins? In my wallet? The very idea is odd to me…I have a hard enough time just getting what little cash I carry and all my credit, debit, membership, health insurance, and ID cards to fit in there without it being uncomfortable and causing back spams. Trying to fit hard, metal COINS in there? SEVERAL of them, no less?

Of course, I understand it’s often easier for women, who tend to have a different style of wallet that is meant for a purse rather than a pocket. But it still seems odd that there are men;'s wallets with coin pockets, and that some men use them…isn’t it comfortable? Even if it’s in a front pocket, it would seem like it adds to much bulk and weight.

But as for coins in my pocket, I only have two quarters today. One is a state quarter, no sense looking at the year, and the other is 1977.

I’ve not received my grant yet, so I don’t have an explanation, but I’m working on it.

Whatever coins I happen to come up with get tossed into the change jug at the end of the day. No way I was going to have the time to look at everything in there, it weighs quite a bit, so I just grabbed a random handful. The oldest in that handful is a 1965 penny.

I had only two coins in my pocket. Surprised to find out that one was a 1970 nickel. The other a 2007 quarter.

I keep a Widow;s Mite and a 1780s 5 kopek in my wallet. Sort of the Mutt & Jeff of numismatics.

I had a 1983 Quarter and a 1983 penny in my pocket. (Now I have none because I put them all into my bank)

My wallet has a coin pocket, and I’m quite happy with it. Sure, it sometimes gets a bit heavy and bulky, if say a shop is out of £5 notes and gives me the change in £1 or £2 coins instead. But you have to remember that British coins are generally of higher value than American ones (£2 = about $3.20), so they’re more useful than a pocket full of quarters. And having them to hand in the coin pocket rather than down at the bottom of my pocket means I am much more likely to spend them, thus alleviating the problem.

In any case, it may be heavier, but I’m not sure that having a dozen or so coins in there it adds all that much to the bulk, compared with, say, 12 $1 bills folded in two.

If I have loads of coins at the end of the day I’ll chuck them in the change jar, but I try to leave about half a dozen higher-value coins in there (say, 20p and above) to use for small purchases.

And slightly more sanitary than the day we were all trying to fit out wedding rings in our noses.
From the 6 coins in my pocket, I’ve got a **1967 **quarter. It’s as old as me, and I feel pretty old today.

Just to mess with people, I popped a mite into my wallet  A bunch of years ago I bout a job lot of the things for the practice in cleaning them up and gave all except for this one away to friends for christmas.

1967 penny in my desk. No coins in my pocket.
