What's the relationship between blood pressure and heart rate

I am interested in the relationship between blood pressure and heart rate, if any. Does the heart rate have any effect on blood pressure at all? It would seem to me that the stronger the heart BP would be at least a bit higher since the heart has to pump more blood per beat.

To use me as an example, 5+ years ago, and for most of my life, my heart rate was around 72. At the same time my BP was 100/60, sometimes even a bit lower. For the last five years I’ve been doing a lot of swimming and my heart rate has come down into the low to mid 60s, but my BP has gone up to 110/70. I’ve no other explanation for my rise in BP except for age. I have at the same time changed my diet for the better, and gotten stronger, at least swimming wise.

However, I’m not asking about myself, nor looking for medical advice, I’m only looking to understand the relationship between the two.

By and large, the healthier you are (from a cardiovascular standpoint, at least), the lower both your heart rate and BP will be. Still, there’s no clear relationship between them. The exception to this is in some people with severe hypertension (high blood pressure) especially if secondary to a catastrophe in the brain. They may have a heart rate which varies inversely with their (high) BP.
