What's the scoop on soft ice cream and sugar cones?

I’m not a big fan of hard ice cream (too cold), so I order soft when available. Waffle cones taste like cardboard, so for me it’s sugar cones all the way. So I place my order, but there seems to be a problem. My order is denied. “No soft on sugar cones”. “Well”, I think to myself, “I’m taking my business elsewhere”, and I do.

“Ahh, here I am, elsewhere”. I do not even realize I’m about to be denied again. And thus begins my search to find a place to accommodate my needs.

Actually, I just ordered soft on a waffle from the first place. But pretty much every place I’ve every tried to order soft on a sugar cone oin my life has either denied me, or served me with a noticeable reluctance as if I just ordered a plate of Dave’s Insanity hot wings and told them to hold the chicken.

Apparently it’s because the sugar cone can’t hold the soft ice cream or something like that. What’s the deal? Is the hole of a sugar cone on top too small? does the ice cream seep through it? Can’t they make a sugar cone that can handle it?

Dairy Queen started out serving soft ice cream on sugar cones. Back then there wasn’t such a thing as waffle cones. You could get the plain cone or they would dip it in chocolate. It does get soggy faster, but not that fast. People today just don’t know and stick by the rules.

You know, this isn’t the first thread I’ve read where someone is complaining “I can’t get this”, or “they won’t serve me that”.
I don’t get it. I’m rarely denied something that I order somewhere. Maybe it’s because I’m big and I look people directly in the eye when I speak to them.

I don’t mean to get too deep here, but you realize that many relationships are about power. If the ice cream place your going into actually has suger cones and soft serve, yet won’t serve YOU both, then you have to win that power struggle, even if you have to cause a little scene. They may have some goofy reason why they don’t want to serve soft serve on a sugar cone. But you’re the customer, willing to pay for what you want! You want soft serve on a sugar cone? Insist they serve you one.

I’ll be they’d serve ME one!
(But of course, I can’t eat ice cream because God hates me and made me deathly alergic to dairy!:()

Next time you’re denied, demand to speak to the manager. They’ll probably give it to you just to avoid the hassle.

Is soft serve ice-cream more or less fattening than regular? And which type of cones is more fattening?

Yeah, those sugar cones’ll get mighty soggy. But so what? Inform the ice cream servers that you’re aware of the problem and are willing to take your chances. Still no go? I second asking for their manager. Believe e, anything is possible in the food service industry. You could have your cone filled completely with sprinkles if you were in the mood for it. I’m rarely denied something that I order somewhere, too. I look people in the eye, but teri cloth short shorts or the ability to cry on command never hurt anyone.

I think they may be reluctant to accomodate you because the lack of a flared opening makes it difficult for the soft ice cream to rest on the top of the cone.

Doesn’t it start to melt all over your hand right away?

No no, you guys are gettin the wrong idea. I’m not complaining about not being able to get what I want.

Can we please stick to the question of why sugar cones are problematic for soft ice cream? Is it because of the sogginess factor suggested by kniz and Cat? Or perhaps the shape of the opening as mentioned by post? and if the latter, can’t they alter the shape?
