What's the scoop on this supposedly huge QuickTime security flaw?

This thread,, which links to a game that makes heavy use of QuickTime, reminded me of a notice I saw out there (here) about a QuickTime security flaw that can allow crackers to take over virtually any kind of computer/OS through QT.

I have a Mac, so this got my attention pretty quick. It’s certainly made me look at the linked game with some suspicion. Anyone have any additional info on this, and/or possible fixing of such?

According to this brief story Firefox users have the most to be concerned about.

But here’s another story dated a couple of days later that talks about “new” flaws discovered.

Here’s one dated Dec 19 that says a new release plugs 3 holes, but the previous article says at least 7 flaws have been detected.

In short… huh?

I’m going out to go out on a limb and say that the security flaws are relatively minor. Generally, when Apple security flaws are found, they require the user to do a number of stupid things in order for their machine to get hosed, and it’s not as simple as on a PC where if you just load a webpage, you can find your machine hacked. Macs (and related products) are simply too small of a target for hackers to bother with, so their security holes tend to go unexploited, or are easily fixed.
