What's the SD on Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson's "Just Out of Reach" duet?

I love this song! I suspect the duet part was created years after her death in a studio, like the “duet” famously recorded by Natalie Cole with her father.

But… Cline and Nelson were both in Nashville during the same period. She recorded some of his songs. I also found a claim that they performed a song together, backed up by the Jordanaires, but it wasn’t this song. And I read that in the 80s (or maybe 90s) someone went into a studio and produced a whole album of Patsy Cline “duets” with her old voice tracks and living partners and the Willie Nelson was among them. But again, it was a different song.

My main reason to suspect it’s fake is that Willie’s voice sounds kinda old, but then again I have no idea what he sounded like 50 years ago.

Actually as I listen to it again and again, it sounds more and more like they weren’t in the studio together. But I would love to find something more definitive.

According to this, it was studio magic after her death. Great song though.

Dubbed about 1989.

She is not singing with Willie Nelson on that song on that page. On some other page I read it was Waylon Jennings, but I don’t know his voice well enough to be sure of that.

Mea culpa. Right you are. That’s Waylon.

Ah, this lists both the Waylon Jennings version and the Willie Nelson one, done about 10 years apart. I see that the other song she supposedly recorded with Nelson and the Jordanaires was also an overdub from around the same time.

Thanks! As a bonus, I have a complete list of her songs. If you take out all the overdub versions, remixes and remasters, you’re left with 106 titles. I thought I had them all, but I only have 98. So I need to start going title by titles to see what I’m missing, and maybe check out some of the other overdubs to see if they’re worth getting.

Thanks for the reminder of this song.

Though growing up in the North-East of England during the 70’s and 80’s my musical memories of youth are of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline.

This brought back lovely memories of my late mother getting Sunday lunch ready whilst belting out this very song. She had a great voice and this has brought a shiver to my spine and lump to my throat.

You’re welcome. I’m trying to decide whether any others of her remixed “duets” are worth getting, but it’s really hard to tell with 30 second samples. But I’me determined to get every title she ever recorded, if not every remix and remaster.
