Cindy Crawford and Elle McPherson…well, hell, nothing else needs be said about them. But I will anyway. The only explanation is that they’re aliens or something, neither one looks like they’ve aged. I mean, not to be crude or anything, but have you seen Cindy’s ass lately? Perfection.
Tori Amos: Though I’d prefer Under the Pink-era, still super fine.
Danica Mckellar: I mean, who didn’t have a crush on Winnie Cooper? And she’s gotten better over time. Gorgeous and super smart.
In the same vein, Natalie Portman has only gotten more beautiful.
Barry Manilow and Gene Wilder. Both looking pretty shriveled these days, but if either of them is interested in having a thirty-nine year old lady hold his hand and gaze at him adoringly, I’m up for it.
David Cassidy was doing some act at the casino last night. I wonder what kind of crowd he got on a weeknight, in February, in an Upstate NY winter. I think he aged pretty well!
I was utterly smitten with Jeremy Northam after seeing him in a BBC adaptation of the Barbara Vine novel"A Fatal Inversion" back in the very early 90s. He’s gone on to have a pretty impressive career, probably most famously co starring with Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1996 version of Emma. For some reason, it seems something about him must say ‘period drama’ to casting directors - the last thing I remember him being in was The Tudors, playing Sir Thomas More.
Jodie Foster - Bugsy Malone and Candleshoe - was my first kid crush. I was 7 when Bugsy came out. She’s still great, and Contact remains one of my favourite films.
Debbie Harry - now this was an altogether different sort of crush. Debbie is still cool as fuck.
Jimmy Page. When I was 15 I would have married him in a flat second if he’d showed up in town. (Granted, it wasn’t legal for 15 years olds to get married in Kentucky back then, but I don’t think Ol’ Pagey would have cared.)
Later there was Johnny Rotten, although I don’t know if I was in love with him or merely fascinated that a human being like that actually existed.
For the record, I am steadily approaching the half century mark.
Why? We’re supposed to crush on the ‘teen’ (or older) idols they put out there! Grandma had Frank Sinatra and Eddie Fisher. I had David Cassidy! Daughters today will have the Jonas Brothers or Robert Pattinson. It’s all good!
I liked Trini from 3-2-1 Contact when I was a little kid. Apparently I wasn’t the only one. It seems she didn’t continue in an acting career and has mostly faded from the public spotlight.
