Who was your celebrity “crush” when you were a kid, when you were a teenager and who would it be today? Come on, fess up - who would you have “kissed” when you were a kid - would have had sex with as a teenager - and who would you not toss out of bed today if they should suddenly appear naked in your bedroom?
For me:
As a confused little kid Gay boy, I had a “thing” for both Haley Mills and Tim Considine (from the Spin and Marty series).
As a teenager:
Jim Morrison from the Doors.
Today:
Colin Farrell (although, if he should show up with Johnny Depp, they would both be greeted with open arms…)
Kid: Olivia Newton-John and Lynda Carter
Teenager: Christie Brinkley, Terri Garber, Emma Samms, Sigourney Weaver, and Lynda Carter
Adult: Drew Barrymore, Indira Varma, Polly Walker, Kerry Condon, Zuleikha Robinson, Coral Amiga, Lyndsey Marshall, Paula Malcomson, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Drea de Matteo, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Scarlett Johansson, and Lynda Carter (of course)
Kid: Mary Lou Retton
Teen: Samantha Fox, Katarina Witt
Now: Christina Hendricks, my 3rd grader’s teacher, our friend Leandria, that girl who works the front desk at the Comfort Inn,
Wait, you asked for “Celebrity crushes”. Never mind.
Kid: Anne Francis (Honey West), Dawn Wells (Mary Ann Summers)
Teen: Farrah Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd (Angels), Bo Derek (10)
Now: Helen Hunt (everything)
When I was 12 years old, I watched Jon Stewart on Short Attention-Span Theater and developed a raging crush. 20 years later, I watch Jon Stewart on The Daily Show and still have a raging crush. No one could accuse me of inconstancy.
Mary Anne and Ginger from “Gilligan’s Island”; Yvonne Craig as Batgirl ; Barbara Eden as “Jeannie” ; Maureen McCormick as Marcia on “Brady Bunch”; Elizabeth Montgomery on “Bewitched”.
Just hitting puberty:
Phyllis Coates as “Panther Girl” in the TV-movie “Claw Monsters” (edited from the 1955 serial, “Panther Girl of the Kongo”). Wow, this one hit me hard! To the point of Obsession! But, I digress…
Teenager:
Olivia Newton John; Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman; all of Charlie’s Angels, but particularly Kate Jackson as Sabrina; Teresa Graves, the sexy black cop in the tragically short-lived TV series “Get Christie Love!” from the 1974-1975 season; and Diana Rigg as “Emma Peel” from “The Avengers” (I did not see the show when it originally ran; I caught it in syndication in the 1970s).
Today :
Yvonne Strahovski from “Chuck” ; Sofia Vergara from “Modern Family”; Eva La Rue from “CSI Miami”; Bridget Regan from “Legend of the Seeker”; and my crush on Lynda Carter continues to this day!
Kid: Eric Cantona, Ally McCoist, Ronan Keating from Boyzone
Teen: Heath Ledger, Edward Norton, Trent Reznor
Now: Michael Ballack, Aaron Douglas (the Chief fom BSG), Jensen Ackles
Lifelong: Sean Bean, all James Bonds (except Lazenby), Harrison Ford, Michael Palin
Ah, another Lynda Carter man I see. That is who I came into say for all age categories. Unfortunately, she is mine and always will be so you really need to pick someone else before I start breaking out in hives. I used to get my babysitters to help me write her love letters before I knew how to write. Kissing hell, I was confused about what I was supposed to do exactly when I got her but even at 5 years old, I knew it wasn’t going to stop with a simple smooch or two. I think my father wondered if I was gay because I had several Wonder Woman dolls that I dressed and played with. Good guess but the real reason was just the opposite.
There is a bunch of others that pushed the right buttons. Sara Michelle Gellar and Alicia Silverstone did it for me when I was in my mid-twenties.
Kid: Tom Selleck and Roger Moore
Teen: So many to list, mostly long-haired (preferably blond) hard rockers/heavy metal musicians. Adrian Vandenberg was top of the list as I recall.
Now: Mostly fictional characters. I started typing in the actor’s names, but outside of the character they played, I’m not particularly interested. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), there are a couple of others, but I can’t remember their names. (They don’t need names in my fantasies!)
As a kid: Shaun Cassidy, John Travolta, Burt Reynolds.
As a teenager: Tom Cruise, Jason Bateman, Tom Hanks.
As an adult: Jason Bateman, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Hugh Jackman.
My wildly age inappropriate middle aged lecher fantasies (not crush so much as “would ravish them if they were willing”) would be Zac Efron, Taylor Lautner, Daniel Radcliffe, but then whose wouldn’t?
Kid: George Michael was probably my first real crush. Ha. Then all the hair metal guys. I had all the posters up on my wall.
Teen: Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and the like. Also, Conan O’Brien.
Adult: Jon Stewart, still Conan O’Brien, the Old Spice Guy.
Kid: Leather Tuscadero, Kate Smith, Mrs. Kotter, Bailey Quarters, Pam Dawber
Teen: nearly every attractive female celebrity between 18-40. My teenaged libido didn’t discriminate.
Adult: No crushes per se, but I keep a mental file on hand (heh) of a revolving door of fantasy fodder celebrities.
Kid: Jerry Lewis (back when he was with Dean Martin . . . and skinny).
Teen: Dick Van Dyke, Rod Serling, George Harrison.
Adult: Hugh Laurie, Adrien Brody, Harold Gould
