Whats the strongest bug spray you can legally buy for home use?

Ok heres my problem … I live in the desert and yeah we have bugs …Our normal bugs are easy to take care of and don’t need much more than a few sprays of ortho home defense around the house every spring/summer

However last fall the city decided to redo the underground water and sewer pipes and it stirred up a new type of (that crawls out of the sink )bug that no matter what I buy at Walmart/lowes it doesn’t kill them So I’m looking for something that wipes out all insects along the lines of legal DDT …

Bueller?

You could ask an exterminator in your area what they use, but what they use might be controlled and not available to the general public, or take a photo of the bug and determine what it is, then Google for a suitable deterrent assuming there is one.

A lot of bug sprays are formulated with specific pests in mind. Wasp spray isn’t the same as housefly spray isn’t the same as ant spray.

Rather than thinking in terms of strength, you’re better off trying to ID the insect and working from there.

Here’s a potential starting point.

The site says a lot of insects that seem to be coming out of the drain might actually be living in the walls. If they’re actually in your pipes, a bit of bleach should do the trick.

I’d start with a boiling water flush. It might not work but the price is right.

I second the notion that you should figure out WHAT bugs you’re dealing with.

Once you do, then you can probably look them up here and get something that’ll deal with them.

I’d second this. A few minutes of hot hot water purge should discourage whatever might be living down there, in addition to practicing good sink hygiene to eliminate attractive food residues. A photo of the critter might be useful too.

“The strongest bug spray you can legally buy…along the lines of legal DDT” is apt to not be compatible with safe home usage, especiallly by someone not specifically trained in its application.

Unless the bugs are really, really strong wouldn’t a plug do the trick?

Maybe this will stop on it’s own.
Digging up the pipes may have allowed bugs that do not normally live in there to temporarily set up shop. But will not last long term. Hopefully.
If they are indeed in the system at depth, then you will only get temporary relief from chemical warfare.
Maybe the city will have to carry out some chemical flush.
