Ugh, I couldn’t stand that one. Some of the jokes were a bit funny, but the theme of ‘these guys are so cool’ running through the whole thing (which is what I mean by overall ass-kissing) yanks the humor out of those bits for me, and the tedium of how much time is spent saying ‘look, here’s a celebrity’ wouldn’t make up for it even if the humor wasn’t removed. And how about the YVAN EHT NIOJ episode, where the whole thing seemed to be written just to have a guest appearance by N-Sync? Ugh.
And it’s the ‘whole show’ ones that grate on me like that, I do like the short appearances like the Stephen King bit and the Stan Lee bits, but those also tend to make fun of the guest instead of telling us how cool they are.
Yeah, I hate episodes when they just pander to the celebrities.
And they seem to have the entire population of springfield in the audience at the rock concert. I mean would mr burns or say Grandpa and his chums like the rolling stones???
Ugh.
Hey, Stephen Hawking was gold! Stephen Jay Gould, way less so.
Another vote for the killing of Maude Flanders. I thought it was cheap, lazy and tactless, and I haven’t watched more than three of the episodes since then.
Obviously, they’d been going downhill for some time.
Does any of the UK dopers, when the Simpsons come on at the standard 7:00 pm, and you then find out that it’s a new episode, do you immediately turn it over?
