What's this ABBA song?

It’s one of their songs that’s constantly rotated on the classic rock stations. It’s got to be one of their top ten. But I’ve reviewed all of ABBA’s greatest hits and so far I haven’t found it.

And I don’t know it’s name.

And I can’t quote any of the lyrics because I don’t actually know them; most of the song is instrumental except for a repeated refrain I can’t make out- I couldn’t actually tell you if it’s in English or not.

And I presume it’s ABBA- it sure sounds like them…

Yes, I’m aware of how absolutely pathetic this is.

Is it Arrival? That is all instrumental, though, with some vocals that are used as part of the music itself, there are no lyrics.

I’m a huge ABBA fan and own every song they’ve ever released, but can’t think of one of their songs that fits your description exactly, especially not one that would be in constant rotation on the radio. It is entirely possible that I’m forgetting something obvious.

Lumpy, may I suggest using the “play a few seconds” feature in Amazon? That may help, it’s helped me with similar issues before.

Or go to youtube and use the “play the whole song” feature.

Voulez Vous?

It’s a discoesque type song written by two Swedish dudes with a French title and English verses, which might explain your confusion.

Abba is being played on classic rock stations?

When you say that you don’t know if it’s in English are you saying that because you don’t remember or because you didn’t understand the lyrics. The majority of their songs (that’s I’ve heard) are pretty articulate, if you just didn’t understand the lyrics that would narrow it down quite a bit for us. They have some songs where their voices are so in sync with the music (in a good way) that it’s hard to make them out. As the casual Abba fan (meaning I really only know the popular songs) I don’t think there’s too many like that. However, I also can’t really think of any songs where there’s long breaks in the vocals.
Was the song fast or slow?

If you’re in the UK, then next time it comes on, dial 2580 and hold your phone up to the radio. In a few minutes you’ll get a text message which will probably have the title and artist identified. It’s like magic, SHAZAM!

Otherwise, you can get the full Shazam app for a variety of smart phones.

Enjoy,
Steven

Rio by Duran Duran

Which stations have played it? This doesn’t sound like something typical “classic rock” stations would play.

My bet is that it’s not ABBA.

In Minneapolis, much less? Somehow, I can’t picture KQRS playing ABBA, which suggests to me that it’s not actually ABBA.

KQRS has their daily playlist online. I couldn’t find any ABBA in it from the past few days.

Thing is, in Amazon you can get a whole list of every single song by Abba they have and play a few seconds off each without losing the listing. Doing the same in youtube is a lot more cumbersome and doesn’t give you album information (which is what I was actually looking for: I wanted to buy an album which contained a specific song, knowing the name of the group but not that of the song).
