What's Trump's end game for the last 14 days of his presidency?

His plan for the last 14 days is to keep pumping out ever more harebrained proclamations of how the election was fake and he was robbed and “someone should do something to come through for us”.

Apparently his plan for his last 14 days in office is to try and stage a putsch.

What amazes me about Trump, and is the only saving grace about him, is how he keeps having opportunities that any authoritarian would seize in a heartbeat thrust in to his face and he doesn’t know what to do with them. He’s had a putsch literally fall into his lap, and he doesn’t know how to take advantage of it.

We won’t be so lucky twice. Cruz, McConnell and their ilk are taking notes and making plans for next time.

I was thinking earlier, maybe crazily so, that this was all very Trumpian stuff. Invite a grievous crowd, spend an hour stirring up said crowd with a litany of grievances, encourage them to “march” on the capitol where election debates were occurring. In Trump’s little mind, maybe he was thinking that this would all get out of hand, Congress would surrender all of its power and everyone would beg him to assume full control of the government.

But, as usual, Donald was too fearful to push all of his chips in to the middle of the table and all the players he needed to do the dirty work for him came up short. The crowd was too small and too stupid. The military, after an initial hesitance to send in the Guard, didn’t come galloping in to assist the crowd and elevate him to Emperor. And Congress, despite much huffing and posturing from the likes of Raphael Cruz, decided to ignore him and get on with its business.

All in all, plenty of the usual loathsome noise from the departing POTUS but nothing of value gained and only more global contempt earned. And he lost two Senate seats in Georgia.

Handy cut-out-and-keep list of countries without extradition treaties with USA to ponder between tweets.

I was surprised it was 75 countries in total. Fortunately it does not include ‘shithole countries’ [his words] - Haiti and El Salvador - although there are African countries which are, he is reliably informed, full of African African-Americans, which is about half that would simply not do.

My bet is on Andorra, which is about the same size as one of his golf courses. It is also the only country on the list which has a higher per capita rate of covid infection than the US, so he could bring his insight and wisdom to teach them a thing or two or three.

Ooooh,Samoa!

I would not call it a “grace.” I would say that if we weren’t so stupid he’d be even more dangerous.

Vanuatu for me.

Vatican City for my mind.

Lots of pomp and ceremony, hagiocracy, miracles over science, beatification, oodles of cash, owns lots of real estate, good place to hide dirty secrets, pedophiles in red velvet, his sort of town.
Lack of a golf course is perhaps the deal breaker

Is it wrong that I’m imagining the old Bugs Bunny saw where he pulls the ripcord, and a whole bunch of dirty laundry and junk come flying out?

Pretty sure Pope Francis wouldn’t have him. He’s spoken out against Trump’s policies many times already.

But isn’t The Church dedicated to feeding and sheltering the impoverished and homeless?

Don’t forget the cast iron frying pan. There was always a cast iron frying pan.

I was wondering about that guy. The local MAGAts have been posting pictures of him at other protests as “proof” that yesterday’s insurrection was really conducted by antifa and that this guy is a member of antifa.

The irony of this is that they’re posting it as proof that Antifa were at the Proud Boys protests to stir up trouble, when in fact it’s proof that the Proud Boys were at the Antifa protests to stir up trouble.

Once you understand that the deep goal is to ensure that nobody believes anything and that there is in fact no such thing as “truth”, then this ploy will make complete sense.

nice call

I would put money that Trump will attempt to order military action against Iran as a pretext for why we cannot transition to a new administration.

As I pointed out to friends isn’t that it is unexpected that Trump has acted like a demagogue, but just how inept he has been on it even in comparison to other historically inept despots. In retrospect, perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising because his overall history in business has been a hit parade of terrible decisions from running a regional airline at a massive loss and pimping his alternative football league to selling steaks through Sharper Image stores and getting into the home mortgage business in 2006. He wasn’t even able to make running casinos—a business with a statistically guaranteed gross margin as long as you can put asses in seats—into a profitable enterprise, and his only real successes have been in self-promotion (and even then his eponymous Milton Bradley game only sold 40% of the expected volume). Trump’s biggest achievement has been conning the electorate and convincing the media—even, or perhaps especially, the “liberal media”—to give him billions of dollars of free press.

Stranger

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf put out a statement this morning calling on Trump to condemn yesterday’s violence. Within two hours, the White House announced that his nomination to serve as Secretary in the permanent capacity had been withdrawn.
