What's up with the Me and You Song (GMC Truck commercial)?

Is it intentionally bad? Is it supposed to be a joke?

I cringe every time the commercial airs. You can hear her run out of air several times. It’s sung in a flat monotone that grates on me. I’d swear she’s off key too. I’m not checking it with my keyboard. I don’t want to listen that closely.

What is the deal? I know GMC can hire better singers than this. This is the best they could do for a multi million dollar, national ad campaign?

For your listening pleasure.

I am pretty sure that is a guy singing, but it is bad. I think it is supposed to sound child like, maybe?

that was my thought, it is supposed to sound “amateur”

For what it’s worth, it’s a him, not a her singing. Me and you- Barry Louis Polisar. Never heard of him, but per Wikipedia “Barry Louis Polisar is an author and singer-songwriter who writes children’s music and numerous children’s books, poems and stories.”

Also for what it’s worth, I kind of like the song in the commercial. Reminds me of folk pop music like Arlo Guthrie.

Oh, it’s a guy, my mistake.

Maybe it’s the singing style that bugs me. I hadn’t considered he’s singing from a child’s perspective. I reach for the remote’s mute when it comes on.

The lyrics are pretty good.

*"Oh, Man! This milk is rotton! It reeks!

Smell it!"*

No thanks.
