Also, Cap, Spidey, and Iron man are all psychlologically distanced from the rest of the population by their secret identities while the FF is distanced by being celebrities so the public is more tolerant of them since it’s unliklely any of them will be coming to dinner. Mutants on the other hand could be a friend, neighbor, familly member, or even you so it’s an in-your-face problem that might hurt you or your loved ones so it scares people on a personal level rather than an abstract one.
This last Thursday night’s episode, “Shadow Dance,” gave me a little more insight into why she did this.
Wolverine went into an alternate, hellish dimension with Nightcrawler, and the two of them were attacked by vicious monsters that resembled Tyrannosaurus Rexes. Yet, despite the obvious threat these beasts posed, and despite the number of times Wolverine waved his claws around, he never actually slashed any of the beasts with his claws.
I’m betting that, since this is an American-made cartoon show aimed at kids, they are operating under a strict “no deaths or permanent injuries” rule. (Sorta like how nobody ever got shot in G.I. Joe.)
After tonight’s episode: man, what is up with Rahne’s weird breathy high-pitched voice? Is that really just their sad attempt at a Scottish accent?
I wondered that myself. It sounds horrible.
I also noticed that Kitty pronounced her name as “Ronnie” when I’m certain I’d heard Jamie pronounce it “Rain” before.
It’s definitely ‘Rain’ - that’s a source of a lot of puns about her name in the comics.
They went just a tad overboard trying to make Rahne cute with that Pippi Longstocking-ish hairstyle.
Fury isn’t exactly a superhero - most of the time he leads a covert ops organization. In any case, he’s a background character.
Well, he didn’t have before. However, the Big A hadn’t been locked up behind a rock wall in Tibet for god-alone-knows how long, either. He was certainly very resistant to such things.
shrug It’s not surprising, considering the hatchet job they did with Rogue’s southern accent.
I was never sure about this myself. The languages of the British Isles are spelled very strangely when using the Latin alphabet. Gwynedd=Gwyneth. My personal favorite was a poet who did a reading when I attended college. The book cover said Micheal O’Sidheal. He was introduced as Meehawl O’shool.
But, a story arc involving yet another alternate earth made it clear. Their, the lass is tyrant ruler. The arc was titled Rahne Of Terror.
So as sher as Saint Patrick drove the Emerald isle, the lasses name is rain. Say it loik the weather ye see so often in these parts.At least her name isn’t Gaelic. Then it would be spelled “Cwnann Strcwvrccquaa” but pronounced “Throat-warbler mangrove.”
Actually, as a southerner I was very pleasantly surprised by Rogue’s accent in Evolution. It’s not perfect but it’s probably the best fake southern accent I’ve ever heard on tv. (That’s not really saying a whole lot, of course, as tv southern accents are almost uniformly dreadful.) Certainly it’s so much better than Rogue’s accent in the 1990’s X-Men cartoon that there’s just no comparison.
I know everyone heard the “Mulder” reference in “Retreat”, but (not being an X-Phile) I didn’t notice on first hearing that the snippet of music when the scene transitions to Beast was a variation on the “X-Files” theme. I assume it wasn’t the actual theme, given the lack of acknowledments in the credits, but it’s very similar. A cute touch.
As for Rahne’s name, I’ve heard it pronounced [rayn], [rah nay], and [ray nay] by various people who share it, but [rayn] seems to be the standard. (Why, yes, I do know a lot of people with odd names. Why do you ask?) I suppose Kitty’s pronunciation could be deliberate–a teasing nickname that stuck, perhaps. She was being awfully clever in this episode.
That might not have been the real X-Files theme playing in the background, but you do have to admit, they captured the real McCoy!
(I wonder how many “Doctor McCoy” jokes Hank gets?)
I am no longer allowed to like Magma.
I just can’t get behind someone who says she hates the metric system.

Yes. Now last night was a good example of plot writing. Things start to make sense and fit together, and they haven’t mis-used the “Magical Cerebro CD” bit too much.
Woo! Cyke finally gets fed up with Mystique’s stupid game of “only I know where the real Xavier is” and lets Trask’s anti-mutant goons capture her.
(Speaking of “capture”, it just didn’t seem right for ol’ Nick Tough-as-nails Fury to say “If I’d wanted to capture you, you’d be captured.” I’ll bet the scriptwriter originally wanted to say “kill” there, not “capture.” I saw this kind of blind search-and-replace of “capture” for “kill” in the U.S. release of the Vehicle Team Voltron, too, when rioting rebels were storming the Druel H.Q. and screaming “Capture the president! Capture the presient!”. I’ll betcha dollars to donut-holes it wasn’t “capture” they were saying in the original Japanese.)
Heck, in the original Japanese the vehicle and lion shows are unrelated.
Sure the lion bots of Hiyakujo Go Lion form a giant robot.
And the vehicles of(I don’t remember) also form a giant robot.
But they only became Voltron1 and Voltron2 in the American versions.
At least they left some of the blood in both Voltron series.
As for Cyke, apparently his new power is the ability to transform his balls into solid brass.
