What's with all the misspellings?

But IMO, if *you * don’t care enough about the content of your post to spend an extra few moments writing it well, I can’t imagine why I should care enough to spend an extra few moments trying to decipher it.

I’m prone to spelling errors in the heat of the moment, and can’t for the life of me figure out how putting an extra “t” in a word, dropping a “g,” or substituting “their” for “they’re” would cause anyone to have to spend any time at all, not to mention “a few extra moments,” trying to decipher it.

This isn’t a peer-reviewed professional journal - its a message board where people may be in a hurry, dashing off stuff before moving on to something else. I’ve never had to try and decipher anything I’ve seen here based on spelling - stupidity or convoluted logic, perhaps, but never spelling.

Actually, I’m seeing more word substitution or homonym errors than true spelling errors: their/there/they’re, loose/lose, home/hone, and so on.

Then there are the occasional “I’m not making a typo, I’m just outright guessing” errors like using “per say” for per se.

You know, stuff that spell checking doesn’t catch.

I am a poor typist but a grammar and spelling nerd, so these errors bother me. That also makes me a prime candidate for Gaudere’s law. I still make an occasional typo, but I hope I’m holding my word choice errors and grammatical blunders to a minimum.

Not to pick on you specifically Omegaman, but, no. A good thought will still be good after you’ve taken the time to make sure you’ve communicated it clearly. A bad thought is even more worth spending a few minutes with. It gives you time to reconsider.

No one is perfect, and I don’t think anyone *expects * perfection. I’m certain that a search of my posts would show myriad spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Probably a whole bunch of typos as well, and I’m an exceptionally good typist.

Well I don’t know if you’ve seen any of recent forays into the pit , but I don’t consider you giving me sound advice to be picking on me in any way. Thanks , and I will do as you suggest .
