I just download the Playstation Home, and the first thing it wanted to do is download an update just as big.
I just downloaded the Super Stardust HD demo, which took an hour and a half because I’ve got slow DSL, and the first thing it wants to do is download an update that’s even bigger than the first download.
What the fuck, Sony? Just put the updated version there in the first place.
Uhhh… Yes. The main Sony server farm for updates is in Indonesia and runs solely on the methane from mistreated Australian cows. I heard it on the internet somewhere, I think.
Yeah, but that’s not the point. The Stardust update is about as big as the original game download. Why not release a single build that incorporates the update? Especially if you’re giving it away for free and face potentially millions of downloads? You almost certainly make up the cost of doing so with the bandwidth you save and you don’t annoy your consumers by offering a free game that is “broken” when you first get it.
No idea. I didn’t say it was the answer, or that it wasn’t a problem - but simply that you could play the game you wanted to play, if you weren’t aware you could do that. (Except for Home, of course. And the best part about Home is deleting it off your system.)
Here’s another non-solution, but for those who grabbed the free month of PS+, you can set your PS3 to download, over night, any and all updates the system or games you play might need. I turned my system on this evening to find that it found 4 games I needed updates for and loaded them all up. Very slick.
I’ll try that, but I’m waiting until school’s over before getting the PS+ trial.
After the two downloads above, I got the demo for inFamous, to see if I wanted that for one of my free games. It was something like 1170 MBytes. Fortunately, it didn’t want to do an equal-sized update…
My PS3 has been connected on-line a grand total of once. That was to download an update so I could watch the Star Trek blu-ray. However, just a couple of days ago I see there is an invite to download/ get a subscription to Net Flix. I have no idea how that got there.
