What's wrong with me ? - brain freeze from playing computer games

Basically I noticed this about three years ago and it has continued. I do not play games alot, however I do enjoy them now and then. When I play a first person game, something like Jedi Knight, or Pathof Neo, where you walk the character around the 3D environment and expect to be attacked by an enemy around every corner you turn, it is these games which cause brain freeze sensation. This is different to eating something too cold as the cold pain is in the back of my head at the same level as my ears.

Sometimes my head becomes so cold that I can no longer play the game (I should add that I do not play games for a long time and the coldness can kick in within 10 mins of playing).

I find it strange that it only occurs with these types of games, it does not happen in shoot em ups like quake or unreal tournament, or sports games.

Now a little background into my health, I’m 21, male, in good physical fitness, I have good eyesight, and do not need or wear glasses.

Does this happen to any one else ?
Should I see the doctor ?

I’m not up on the latest trends in gaming, but I fail to see why Quake and Unreal Tournament don’t meet the criteria you established in the first sentence for games that do cause brain freeze.

As with all things medical, it’s best to put more weight on the advice of a doctor you see face-to-face than the advice you get from an internet message board. That said, consulting a neurologist might be helpful, if only to eliminate the possibility of epilepsy, which has been shown to manifest itself more frequently among sufferers who also engage in video games.

I’m with biqu. You might want to get some weird form of epilepsy ruled out.

This puzzled me too, so I have come to think that the noises in the game have some effect aswell. In general find that quake and unreal are quite noisey games and you can here most of what is going on near you in the game. The games which cause the freeze seem to be a little more quite. the character walking down a long, quiet corridor, then an imperial guard silently pops out and shoots his blaster at me.

Thanks for the advice Ill talk to the doc and let everyone know whats going on.
I would still be interested to hear if anyone has experienced or heard of his before.
