What's wrong with my cat's eyes?

For the past 3 days, his eye membranes have been noticeably visible. Sometimes, halfway across his eyes. I’ve always heard it’s a sign of sickness, but he seems to be feeling okay. He’s been sleeping a little more than usual, but that could be due to the cold weather.

IANAV, just dealt with this with my orangies before.

Dehydration or illness or both. If it is both eyelids it is probably not a foreign object. Its possible he could just have the kitty cold, or it could be much worse. 3 days of a protruding nictating membrane is a pretty good reason to see the vet though, even if nothing else appears to be wrong. Good luck to you and kitty.

I still don’t understand why people are so against going to the vet or just even calling a vet and talking to them rather than posting to the internet for strangers to ‘diagnose’. :\

Take him to the vet.

Calling the vet would probably be a better plan. Getting our cats to the vet is nearly impossible. They both hate getting into the cat carrier and we had to drag them out from under beds and wrap them in towels and then take the carrier apart to get them out when we actually get to the vet’s office. I have scars from putting the cat in the carrier.

We eventually switched to the vet in a van who makes house calls. Even then, my cat was so scared he peed on the carpet and then ripped the curtains trying to get away from the vet.

And I don’t understand why people make assumptions about “strangers on the internet,” and would rather post those assumptions than try to be helpful.

For your (and anyone else’s) information, he has an appointment for later this week. The reason I posted this thread, was to get an idea on what to expect. Our dog was diagnosed with glaucoma earlier this year, and I’m overly sensitive to the tiniest symptoms.
