What's your 2020 calendar all about?

A different dachshund picture every month.

We gave up on wall calendars a couple of years ago when we realized that every few months we would look at it and realize it was still for the previous month, or even 3 months behind.

I bought one of those, years ago. I’m about 6 years behind.

I always end up getting several free calendar from various non-profits seeking donations. I pretty much always use the one from the Nature Conservancy, and that’s the one I’m using for 2020. As you might guess, it has a different nature scene for every month, usually representing the current season.

I also got calendars from the California State Parks Foundation and the Yosemite Foundation. Clearly I’m on a mailing list for environmental/wildlife conservation charities. I gave those calendars to other family members.

We haven’t got it yet, but every year my DIL prepares and sends around a calendar that tabulates with photos the birthdays of our entire family, as well as hers, each on his or her birthday. Since we have three children, three spouses, six grandchildren, though her family is smaller, it is still quite an undertaking. She is a busy family physician as well as director of residency at her hospital, but seems to really enjoy this sort of thing.

I have the Greyhound Project calendar this year, which is what we go with most years. I also get a free calendar every year from the university’s alumni association, which I should probably put up at work …

Each year at work, I say to just get me something with animals and each year I get a “North American Wildlife” calendar. Which is fine and does the job but it’s a lot of the same “grizzly fishing in stream”, “white-tail deer glancing back in snowy forest” and “head shot of grey wolf” photos as every other year. I’m sure there’s some other photo-worthy animals on the continent but calendars stick with the classics. Next year, I’m going to have to request a “Mustelids of North America” or something to mix it up a bit.

Currently a Border Collie calendar, but we have a Mini Aussie, so that calendar will be here Tuesday.

A couple of years ago I made a calendar for an old friend of mine. She was doing her thesis on the old English literary work Piers Ploughman, so I made her a Piers Ploughman calendar by printing out contemporary illustrations relevant to the text and pasting them over the pictures in an existing calendar.

The wall calendar in my room at school this year will be the 2020 Order of the Stick Spell of the Month calendar.

The office at home will be graced by the current offering from I Could Pee On This.

My mother got me one as a Christmas stocking stuffer. It has cutesy drawings of cats with twee poems on them. I just…can’t :o.

I mean I like cats and I have cats. But I own no cat-related decorations or paraphernalia, I don’t consider them “fur babies” and if the little hairball-vomiting bastards ever started leaving poetry around the house I’d kick them out the door faster than you could say “T.S. Elliot.”

So yesterday I bought one on sale with hummingbird photographs. It’s hardly original, but at least they don’t have fucking poems on them.

I recycle my wall calendars. You only need fourteen, you know (provided you don’t write on them). But this year, being a leap year, I don’t have an old one that fits! So I had to go out and buy one. Got “Beaches of the World.”

My favorites are my two Hildebrandt Brothers Tolkien calendars. I love when years roll around that I can put one of those up.

On leap years, I just skip Feb. 29, then go to a different calendar on Mar. 1.

My editor sent me a calendar as an Xmas gift. It’s got the best cover art from books published by her over the years.

Yes, I’ve done that too.

Work is the 2020 Outlander calendar
Home near my workdesk is a Josephine Wall calendar
Ivylad and I have been getting the Boris Vallejo calendar for YEARS. That’s our main “house” calendar, for writing appointments and such.

Mine is photos of pit bull puppies.

I get the 365 Kittens a Year wall calendar each year. Gave up on page-a-day some years ago.
