What's your alignment?

Funny to read my earlier post. I’m pretty sure I’ve gone to NG from LG in the intervening years.

And whee, the poll is still open.

While my code forbids strict categorizations, I probably fit best into Chaotic Neutral with a helping of Lawful Good and a dash of Lawful Evil*, like sriracha sauce.

*especially when driving.

Here’s an updated link to the online alignment test from Wizards of the Coast, the link Whynot posted in 2012 doesn’t work anymore.

According to it, I’m neutral evil. Sounds about right.

Lawful Good, and that doesn’t surprise me at all.

-0.5° camber
+2.0° caster
+0.1° toe.

What?

And on that one I’m just neutral. Previously I was Neutral Good. Go figure.

Tells me I’m CN. Apparently the absence of rock solid support of family & deference to elders is sanctimoniously interpreted as “eeevil.” Ima hafta think about that. I guess everyone feels like they behave morally, the differences just come from the particulars of their moral code.

I had a hard time with this, because I have a hard time defining or recognizing ‘good’. I’m an atheist and don’t believe in any sort of authority that declares or defines what’s good. I tend to approach ‘good’ from a utilitarian perspective - what’s good for the most people, weighted against by how bad it is for the other people, is good.

By that definition of good, good isn’t my priority. Self interest is. Of course I live in a society that remembers what you do, so self interest often aligns with doing things that won’t get you killed, beat up, fired, or even scorned or disliked. So I generally act in ways that can be mistaken for “good”. Though not always - my personal utility is the end goal here, so if the charity or compliance is too costly in some way or other I’m not on board. (For example I’m atheist, and act like it - if I was devoted to the appearance of societal conformity I’d be in the closet, given my immediate environs.)

Of course, I’m not actively opposed to good either; as noted I will often cheerfully act good because it’s the easiest/most advantageous thing to do. I won’t kick a puppy just because it’s the wrong thing to do.

All that taken into account, I think that makes me morally Neutral.

As for law/chaos, I’m probably actually straddling lawful and neutral. I think lawful societies are good, because lawless societies are unpleasant. I think that some laws are justified and follow them to a fault (such as not engaging in copyright infringement/piracy). But then again, I will totally speed sometimes if I think the road conditions (including police presence) don’t justify obeying the speed limit. Also I have exactly zippo respect for unjustified laws like things that are due only to traditions. If there’s not a good reason for the rule then screw it - the only real reason to obey that sort of rule is because the consequences are worse than the pain of obeying and there’s no way to sidestep the situation.

So when the dust settles, I believe I’m True Neutral.

Neutral good, according to that quiz.

Hey, me too! Let’s do a dungeon together! P.S., I’ve never played D&D but I have taken a few on line tests about it.

Aaand having taken the quiz, it agrees with me: I’m Neutral. I did leave about five questions blank because I no answers matched what I would do.

Lawful good. Apparently I’m boring and think very highly of myself.

I thought I was chaotic neutral according to the quiz I’m just neutral. My guess is my caring for my friends pushes me off the chaotic scale since I’m consistently for them.

I like rules and doing the right thing. Lawful good.

Neutral. Eh, probably about right. Maybe just a dash of chaotic in there.

Still Chaotic Neutral. I wouldn’t have said so from the description, but that’s what the quiz says.

Neutral, verging toward Good and Chaotic.

In a discussion of impeachment, I described a choice between chaotic evil and lawful evil. Don’t know which is worse.

Neutral Good or Lawful Good depending upon how I vary my answers.

It’s relative, bro. It’s easy to see why a CE and a LG wouldn’t get along. Folks generally believe a LG and a CG (Paladin & Ranger) can get along reasonably well because they intersect. But this means a LG and a LE can get along just as well–they all have 50% of their ethos in common, after all.
