What's your area of expertise?

Esperanto.
The design of solar houses.
Electronics.
Writing.
…um, that’s about it.

Wine, wine packaging (glass, corks, foils, screw caps, etc.), TTB and wine label laws.

You people are all so very interesting.

I have spent my education and paid and volunteer career up to my elbows in environmental politics, but there is no such thing as an “expert” in this area (everyone fancies themselves to be one). Also I hate to get in policy discussions with people I don’t know well, so I very rarely discuss it.

The joys of bureaucracy and the politics of public sector organizations, but nobody cares about that, except me.

Mostly I get involved in threads about pit bulls, but I’m no expert, just a big fan.

Bootleg audio recordings of Clash concerts (I have 200+ shows).

Curiously, this has never come up.

But when it does, I’ll be ready.

Stone tools.
Shell beads.
Geoarchaeology.
NEPA, NHPA, and CEQA and how they affect cultural resources.

It is more glamorous than you can possibly imagine.

From my profile:
Interests: Baseball, Computers, Wood working, Wooden Sail Boats, Sci-Fi & History. I will add to that specifically books by Tolkien and Heinlein.

On this board, the only thing I seem to be an expert at is AS400 / RPG programming and to some degree the Yankees and their History.

I can be of use for questions on wiring and some HVAC stuff, but others are more knowledgeable.

Jim

Music, particularly classical, particularly vocal, particularly opera.

And Yankees (and Yankees fan) bashing.

Geez, are you following me around or something, I thought only LOUNE did that.

Hey, I live in St. Louis. Since I moved out here there just aren’t that many Yankees fans to harass. Got to get my fix somehow.

Canadian politics and government, the metro, translation, languages and linguistics, geography, monarchy, LGBTT issues.

We bow before thee oh great Lore-Master!

Well, ok then, glad to be of service.

History - especially of WW1, cooking, a bit about wine (but not a real expert), fusion research, a few cities I’ve visited or lived in. Books - definitely Heinlein and Dorothy L Sayers (also James Clavell but I keep that quiet  )

Thank you.

In all seriousness, while I seem to be posting in the same threads as you a remarkable amount today, it’s really just coincidence (or we just tend to hang out in the same forums and have similar interests). I have gotten a couple of Yankees jabs in today, but I do try to keep that down. I do mean it in fun, and I’m far more likely to engage in serious baseball talk than cheap Yankee bashing.

(Just don’t insult the Sawx. That’s just mean.)

Certain firearms and use thereof.

I’d feel fairly comfortable jumping in to a discussion of beaker people burials, but that doesn’t come up too often

Fibre channel, which comes up almost as often as beaker people

Certain food allergies

Certain pagan religions

But I wouldn’t consider myself an expert at any of them. Compared to your average Joe, maybe, but in this place? Well, maybe I could hold my own in a fibre channel discussion.

Ah geez, I forgot to include this in my list.

Fuck the Yankees.

A previous thread on the subject.

Linguistics, particularly sociolinguistics and phonetics.

Knitting.

Well, that’s all the useful stuff, at least.

Korean, I guess. English literature (mostly 20th century), certain Japanese anime series, Asian American studies. And how to post while drunk.

Your ideas intrigue me and i would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
