What's your area of expertise?

I won’t claim to be an expert on anything but sheer sloth, but I do know a little bit about a Greek vase painting, especially Archaic red figure. I know more than enough to make my trip to the Getty Villa worthwhile and informative, and will gladly talk anyone’s ear off about it.

There are many far better and more qualified classicists and art historians on the boards, though.

I guess my only claim is that I am an expert on Los Angeles taco stands (unless of course the Taco Bandini posts here). If anyone comes to LA, I will show you tacos that reveal the path to enlightenment.

I could answer questions on this or ichnology. Just keep 'em simple, it’s been a while.

On set film production.
History of film cameras and cinematography.
Drunken misbehaviour.

Alice Cooper, pre-1950’s movies, small animals, Fifties and Sixties music, Classic Rock, bicycles (less than the other stuff), trivia.

Ancient Rome, world geography, accent identification, rock music from the 70’s to today, Canadian history.

Thanks everyone for responding. It’s really interesting finding out what areas people have interest in and knowledge of. This thread though makes me feel a bit thick!

Labor and Delivery
Postpartum care
Newborn care and breast feeding
Robert B. Parker’s novels
I’d add TLOTR but I bow to Quadgop’s expertise. Im just a litle geek.

Wow, I’ve just spent the past year dealing with NEPA and more significantly NHPA issues. Quite the education, I can say. There are, ahem, some very passionate people out there who deal with such things.

Well, considering the long hours, low pay, and general confrontational nature of the work - passion is all we got!

Congenital toxoplasmosis.
Christmas light trends of the Midwest over the past 20 years.
A little bit of pharmaceutical stuff.
Running clinical trials research.

But my real “area of expertise” is actually…the Harry Potter series. I can have THE geekiest HP conversation of anyone I know. And I know a LOT of geeks who have read the books.

Computers and Taekwondo. And guitar.

The Bulgarian educational system. Ummm…that’s all I got.

Oh, actually my best moment EVER in GQ was when someone asked about the Ethiopian Jews. And I actually took an anthropology class in college on Ethiopian Jewry. That was like four years ago and I still remember the thrill I got in knowing that out of thousands of Dopers, I was almost certainly the best educated on this topic.

Doesn’t happen to me all that often, though.

  • physics and related topics, with particle physics my specialty. However, GQ has several talented physicists, so I often just sit back and watch, jumping in only when necessary.

  • probability and statistics (again, many knowlegdable folks already around.)

  • poker

  • guitar
