The Volcano also serves the Olympia/Lacey area, so your post is my answer. The military newspaper it’s often bundled with is the Fort Lewis Ranger (Regular Army National Guard Enlisted Reserve).
(I get so annoyed when I want to read the Volcano but the newspaper box packages it with the Ranger and someone has already stolen the Volcano out from inside the Ranger. I should really be more careful when I pick up the paper.)
We’ve got the Santa Fe Reporter. A surprisingly decent free weekly, which is nice because the “real” paper in town is completely worthless. The Reporter also puts together an “Annual Manual” every spring, which is an incredibly handy magazine-sized compendium of just about all the little practical things you may want to know, and also great to hand off to guests who are in town, since it’s full of “where to shop” and “where to eat” reviews.
In Albuquerque we’ve got this:
I don’t really like it because its quality of journalism is inconsistent and it tends to project a “hipper than thou” attitude.
But I was shocked to hear about the creator of Thundercats getting killed, so I guess it’s good for something.
The utterly worthless

Worthless except for the few square inches of Jonesin’ Crossword, which I look forward to all week.
The Examiner has a much better front page. It’s great at showing outrage- I grabbed the one yesterday just because it shared my anger over Metro fare hikes. The Express didn’t even mention it!
Covering the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area:
I loved the Reader when I lived there but that was nearly 20 years ago. It’s a shame that it’s apparently degraded so much.
NYC has a little one called The Village Voice.
In Austin, it’s the Chronicle which has actual journalists and stuff
It’s a little heavy on the Crystal Bowersox coverage at the moment, as she’s a local girl, but it’s generally worth a read through.
