What's Your Employer Doing About Days Off With 4th of July 2004 Falling On A Sunday?

Monday the 5th

I have no idea whether my store closes or not. Given it’s a Sunday, we might, because we’re always low-volume on Sundays anyway. We got Christmas and Thanksgiving off last year, but we’re open on New Year’s, Easter, Memorial Day, and Labor Day, so I’m not entirely sure about Independence Day.

I work for a sadist corp, so I’ll be working Sunday and Monday. Oh sure, everyone else gets the day off, but there are not holidays in Operations!! Yay!

Yeah, exactly. Except were I worked they closed early on the 4th…about 9:30 instead of midnight. I.e, just when the fireworks are over. So, just late enough for the employees not to be able to do anything for the holiday, and early so no customers could stop in on there way back from the festivities…brilliant :dubious: .

Of course this year I’m in the UK so I’m going out on a limb and guess not much fuss will be made (unless…you’re not still bitter are you?..maybe I better stay indoors that night   ).

My current employer doesn’t let you have a day off if the official holiday falls on a weekend. We have the least number of paid holidays of anyplace I’ve ever worked, even though we’re not a service industry.

Monday I may be offered a new job (fingers crossed and all that). I have no idea yet what their policy is, but even if I don’t get a paid holiday for Independence Day, I’ll be better off than I am now, so I’ll celebrate.

I work in a government office that is open 7 days a week.

We’re closed on Sunday and Monday. The 5th will be the day we get paid for as only a portion of the staff works Sundays and we aren’t open for the full day anyway.

The only people who would lose out are part-timers who just work weekends.

The only day we close is Christmas, and then only because it’s state law.

The 4th is one of 5 days of the year in which our hourly employees get time and 1/2. I’m on salary so I don’t get that benefit. Also, I am “strongly encouraged” to (which means I must) work all of those holidays so that the boss doesn’t have to pay one of the hourly guys an extra $20 per shift.

But, I love my boss. I really do. Jerk.

So, yeah, it’s business as usual both Sunday and Monday.

We’re off Monday, too. Which I’m very happy about seeing as how it’s my birthday.

We’re open 24/7.

Some folks will take the Monday off with pay. Those who normally don’t work Sundays will just put down 8 hours extra. Those that actually work Sunday will egt 8 hours Holiday pay and the entire shift (12 hours) will be overtime.
