What's Your Employer Doing About Days Off With 4th of July 2004 Falling On A Sunday?

We haven’t made up or minds yet - We’re usually open:

M->F 7AM to 5:30PM,
Sat 7AM-2PM
and closed Sundays.

I’m assuming most places of business will be closing shop Monday the 5th and we’ll most likely follow suit.

[Perhaps a Little Unpatriotic in 2004] Puerto Vallarta…Here I come! [/Perhaps a Little Unpatriotic in 2004]

I work for a Japanese company, and we get lots of days off that other folks don’t.

We’re off on Friday July 2 AND Monday July 5. Yay for us!

We’re taking off Monday the 5th.

“Puerto Vallarta…Here I come!” Traitor! You could at least go to, say, the U.S. Virgin Islands! Actually our secretary is heading to the British Virgin Islands over that holiday weekend, so I called her a traitor, too.

The 5th is a holiday for us. I will work 4-10 hr. days the week before to have Friday, the 2nd, off too.

I work retail. We close 3 days a year and close early 2 days a year, so nothing special for the 4th. Our corporate support departments are getting the 5th off, though. :dubious:

They’re giving us the Monday.

Because of this, and because Christmas falls on a Saturday (our office is not open on weekends, and would normally be closed on the 4th and Christmas), we got 2 “floating holiday” days that we can use at any point throughout the year to make up for the “lost” vacation days.

My company also uses the “two floating holidays” concept but July 5 will be a standard company-wide holiday.

I get the 5th off for the holiday… oh the joy of being a public employee (I work at the University)

I remember when I worked retail and never got any days off except christmas and thanksgiving. I had on job once where I had to work on easter. I hated it sooo much!

We get a float on the day before or the day after Indepence Day (and Canada Day, for those so inclined). The day varies depending on the year. When the holiday falls on a weekend, we get Friday and Monday.

Which is all academic in my case, since I have a pager grafted to my hip. Still, it sounds nice.

Nothing at all. I also have to work Christmas.

My company has off on the 5th.

Not really a company-based thing for me. My company follows the stock market’s (NYSE) schecule. If there’s trading going on, we’re working, otherwise, not.

We get both Friday and Monday off, as well.

Only Monday off (though I have jury duty that following Tuesday).

5th here too. But I’m going to work then ayway. How could I pass up triple-time?

We usually stick our floating holiday onto the 4th – and this year, we’re using it on 7/6, not the Friday before the 4th. So we’ll have a 4-day weekend, but ours will be Sat-Tues, not Fri-Mon.

If it’s any consolation, we don’t shut down for Ramadan over here much. I’m shocked that SA doesn’t give workers the US Independence Day as a holiday.

For the sarcasm impaired: This is a joke.

Putting us on furlough and having us use vacation time or go unpaid!

(Hey, its better than mass layoffs).

I work in theatre, which tends to run on a Tuesday through Sunday schedule. We are, surprisingly enough, taking the 4th off (first time I’ve had it off in years. Nothing like the sound of fireworks in the distance while folks are trying to act on stage), but we added two extra shows around that time so nobody will get any paid time off.

We’ve got the 5th off. Our office is on a 5/4 schedule (5-day wweek, followed by 4-day wweek, repeat) and our off-Friday happens to line up on July 2 this year. So we get a 4-day holiday.
