My ten-year-old son’s absolute favorites are Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear, so we always go on those several times (I like 'em fine too).
I like Pirates and the Haunted Mansion, and we really like Peter Pan for some reason. Especially when you fly over London.
Kali River Rapids in the Animal Kingdom is pretty cool too.
Better yet: not only are you killed, but you’re sent to Hell!
BTW: another vote for The Haunted Mansion. For this Halloween junkie, it’s the best ride imaginable. As a kid, I wanted to LIVE there.
The ride home.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a bunch of fun stuff to do at all of the Orlando parks, but up until last year* every time we had out of state visitors, we ended up shelling out the bucks for another visit.
That gets old, and expensive, fairly rapidly. But when your three year old nephew and six year old niece wanna go see the mouse, you suck it up and take 'em to see the mouse.
*[sub]We actually got folks from three states to “meet in the middle” and spent a week in Gatlinburg. It was like an actual vacation and everything![/sub]
All that said, It’s A Small World is a truckload of fun with a one, three, and seven year old. None of the grown ups had to sit out the ride with the two littlest ones, nor keep them entertained while the rest of the group spent forty minutes in line.
Imagination with the restored Figment was pretty neat, too.
Couldn’t you have bought annual passes, skeezix? I think for FL residents they’re only about $300, which more than pays for itself if you go for more than 6 days in one year, not to mention free parking. You my have already thought of this in the past, I’m just asking.
The Pirates of the Carribean. I love everything, including the walk down the dank corridors to the loading area. Feels like you’re descending into an old Spanish prison.
I love the Haunted Mansion and Pirates, but I also love - don’t laugh- the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Why? Because there is never a line or anything resembling a line, it’s not scary, you get to see the inside of Space Mountain (and that’s the closest I’ll ever get) and you get to sit down for about five minutes.
I wish there was a Tower of Terror for wimps. What cool effects it has, but I can’t handle the drops.
I’m with you on the TTA, Caricci. After a long day on your feet, that’s a great place to relax and get some air conditioning as you go through Space Mountain.
Indiana Jones and Splash Mountian (you gotta love the classics)
– Space Mountain, as much for the line as for the ride. When I get a fastpass, i’m actually sort of let down when I dont get to wait in line in that blue tunnel with the space music playing and the “cars” whoosing past you…
– Second per second, Peter Pan, that ride above the city is tripppy
I’m going back to Disney World in less than a month for the 6th time, woo!
Anyways, my favorite rides are (though i love 'em all).
Magic Kingdom: Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Thunder Mountain Railroad
Epcot: Test Track, Honey I Shrunk the Audience
MGM: Rockin’ Roller Coaster: Starring Aerosmith, Tower of Terror, Muppets 3D
Animal Kingdom It’s Tough To Be A Bug
I also love Typhoon Lagoon and River Country (Blizzard Beach, not so much).
Favorite Hotel? Dixie Landings (Now known as Port Orleans, West Side).
I’m all for Indiana Jones. I have maybe two dozen of the little cards that “deciphered” the text for you, back when they were still handing them out.
I don’t know what Transit Authority is, but then I haven’t been to Disneyland for over a year. My guess is it’s what replaced the Rocket Rods, which in turn replaced the ever-great PeopleMover?
I think my favorite ride is the free trip to Pleasure Island where all the Bad Boys you dig are finally forced to grow up and become MEN. Unfortunately, Disney turns them into jack asses. Well, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference!
(in regards to resident passes)
Unfortunately for us, we never seemed to hit the same park more than two or three times, with various visitors. If they were all Disney parks (their passes are good for any Disney park, I b’lieve) we’d be good, but there’s Universal, and the new Islands of Adventure thing, and Seaworld, and the new Swim With The Dolphins* park they opened, and then over in Tampa there’s Busch Gardens, and the aquarium, and…
You get the idea.
Fortunately, once they hit our favorite local beach, most return visits consist of our group spending the week (or two) here in town, beachcombing and barbequeing and drinking and such.
[sub]And setting their watches by the 4PM twenty minute thunderstorm. It’s like a scheduled theme park attraction, for free![/sub]
*[sub]Can’t recall the actual name, but that’s what the place boils down to, basically.[/sub]
Hate to say it, but I think the music (at least in Disneyland) is GONE!!! The last four times I’ve been there (I go probably once a year) that wonderful Dick Dale music has been missing! It seems slower without the music.
My favorites of Disneyland are:
-Space Mountain (even without the music, it’s still fun)
-Teacups (I have a contest with my friends, who can spin faster…always makes my dizzy for half an hour!)
-Peter Pan…but the line is always so long for such a short ride…
I used to enjoy the People Mover (it was so funny, especially the Tron part) but they took it away…I think because a lot of people died trying to jump from car to car. It figures that people would die on the slowest ride in the whole park.
I just want to note that having visited both Disney Land and World numerous times, not all the attractions are created equal between the 2 parks.
Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain are both better at Disney World while Pirates of the Caribbean at Disney Land reigns supreme. Other rides like Star Tours are identical. However, if it’s your first time experiencing any of the aforementioned rides at either park, you won’t notice the differences and thus won’t care; they’re still fantastic rides.
The very first time we went to WDW,we stayed at DXL(which I will NEVER call POW!)and luuuuuuuuuurved it.
I’ve never been to DL but I will go someday…I swear it.
Glory, glory,to the Moooouse!Glory glory to the Mooooouse!Glory glory to the MOuuuuuse! His ears are marching on!
IDBB
The Tower of Terror, Pirates, Haunted Mansion…
But I also loved the Tiki Birds!
Pirates Of The Carribean, in Disneyland, anyway. Never been to Disney World, but I guess they have one there too (?).
I’m another fan of the Transit Authority, although I’ve enjoyed ever since they called it the WEDWAY. Nice cool ride which ended up with an archaic version of virtual reality (skiing, flying over stuff, etc.)
