What's your favorite Eagles song?

Yeah, it’s just the general lyrical feel of the song (and I’m not someone who listens to lyrics, usually), that has meaning to me. Those lines and several others. Not so much the “seven women on my mind,” line though. I can’t quite multitask like that.

These days I tend more toward the Lebowski position, but:
Desperado - very fine songcraft.
Life In the Fast Lane - more for Joe Walsh than the song itself.
I Can’t Tell You Why - nothing special, just a decent song.

I don’t feel right saying Seven Bridges Road, since it’s a cover. Take It Easy is okay, but I tend to credit Jackson Brown for the good parts and the band for the bad stuff (like the crappy banjo).

I really liked Lying Eyes the first 30 times I heard it, but now it’s painful, along with most of the others. But I don’t mean to threadshit. Apologies.

Either “The Last Resort” or “Learn to Be Still”

Hotel California!
I have a low tolerance for songs that get played into the ground but damn, I can listen to that song anytime!

Sorry…I love it.

I’ll sit on the bench with you and share my popcorn.

  1. Lyin’ Eyes
  2. Tequila Sunrise
  3. Take It Easy
  4. Take It to the Limit
  5. Hotel California

When I first came to Japan, JpnGal and I went to see a show from the “Hells Freezes Over” tour in Yokohama Arena. Jump 16 years to the next show we saw for the “Long Road to Eden” tour at Tokyo Dome. That was a week before the big quake and tsunami here.

The lead guitar on “I Can’t Tell You Why” is sublime to me.

Desperado. But Learn to Be Still is a great song.

I really tend to like the suite from the concept album Desperado: Certain Kind of Fool -> Doolin’ Dalton II -> Outlaw Man
But that’s kinda cheating, I know.

I also like the contrast between the *Wasted Time *reprise and how it segues into Victim of Love – but, again, I suspect that’s cheating.

If it had to be just one, I’d say Hole in the World for its timely release. Strangely, though, that’s one of two Eagles songs I don’t own.

Some folks call me sinner
Some folks call me saint
Some say there’s a Heaven
But I still say there ain’t

…–Glen Frey (Eagles)
Outlaw Man
…Desperado

Hey! I was going to name both of those!!

take it to the limit and New Kid in town… i like how i heard all these songs as a kid… and then when I got older i could tell the Glen songs from the Don songs.

BTW still pissed Glen sings “Limit” now and makes some dumbass credit card ex wife joke… Randy should be the only one to sing that bad boy… his voice nails it…

I always liked “The Long Run.” A nice, timeless rock, soul sound.

In fact, that album is one of my favorites, even if it is not very well regarded in most critical reviews. I even like “The Greeks Don’t Want No Freaks.” That probably makes me a freak.

  1. The Last Resort
  2. Take it to the Limit - “Yeah, Randy”
  3. Desperado

Hotel California. Never was a big fan though my college roomate from 1976 thought they were the best group ever.

I like almost every song listed in this thread, but you guys left out one of their best: Victim of Love. Driving beat, hard-edge lyrics, Joe Walsh tearing it up on guitar. Nice.

Some people never come clean
I think you know what I mean
You’re walking a wire of pain and desire
Looking for love in between

Hotel California
Life in the Fast Lane
King of Hollywood

I am one of those Dopers mentioned upthread that is not a big Eagles fan - huge respect for their songcraft, musical talent, longevity. They were a big part of the soundtrack back then. I just find their output a bit too…I dunno - nothing worth discussing in a nice thread like this…

But I do want to +1 this post - Joe Walsh’s lead on Victim of Love just totally rocks. It is interesting to hear that Don Felder came up with a lot of the music for the song - it was discussed in the doc and in his autobio - it was decided that Henley should be the one to sing it - well, because no one has a voice like Don Henley - and Walsh ended up on slide even though Felder is a great slide player…lot of turmoil around that time…

I like a lot of Eagles songs, but don’t love many.

I guess my favorites are:

“Desperado”
“Take It to the Limit”
“Tequila Sunrise”
“Victim of Love”
“Wasted Time”

Almost the same, except I replace Tequila Sunrise with Seven Bridges Road.

Wow. 59 posts and I’m first to mention “James Dean” ? I love me the heck out of that song!

“Well talk about a low-down bad refrigerator
You were just too cool for school
Sock hop, soda pop, basketball and auto shop
The only thing that got you off was breakin’ all the rules”

Also, since I saw The Eagles in concert shortly after Joe Walsh joined the group and they let him play some solo stuff, I’m gonna add “Walk Away”
