What's your favorite musical?

Notre Dame de Paris! (dare to be different!)

Followed by Man of La Mancha, Les Miserables, Chess, A Chorus Line…

“Semper Ubi Sub Ubi.” =-)

Rent and Blood Brothers are my top two. Many others are on the list.

All That Jazz!

Bye, Bye, Life…

“If I pinch my nose with my fingers, close my mouth tight,
and blow real hard, I can make my ears bleed. It’s
not as cool as Superman’s X-ray vision, but it’s my own
special talent.”

My top 5 (altho I’ll probably change my mind by this afternoon):

  1. Guys and Dolls (I’ve got the horse right here…)
  2. Fiddler on the Roof
  3. All That Jazz (thanks, Nicky!)
  4. South Park - Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (yes, it most certainly is a musical!)
  5. The Music Man (You gotta know the territory!)

HAIR! That is my favorite musical. It had awesome music (Age of Aquarius, Hair, Sodomy, The Flesh Failures/Let the Sunshine in, etc) and had a good storyline eventhough it had a depressing ending.

I don’t have a favourite. I have many favourites.

Guys and Dolls
Oklahoma
Fiddler on the Roof
South Pacific
Man of La Mancha
Camelot

And of course, everything by Gilbert and Sullivan. Yeah, they’re operettas. Love 'em all.

My own favorite is Singin’ in the Rain. Of non-movie musicals, I’ve always had a soft spot for Oklahoma.

But my late father argued that the best American musical was The Music Man because its use of patter, dialog songs and fractured English (“you watch your phraseology!”) made it the first musical that actually had an ear for conversational speech.

A little pedantic perhaps, but a viewpoint worth considering.

I understand all the words, they just don’t make sense together like that.

#1 of all time - “Chess,” original London version.

After that, in no particular order…

“Jekyll & Hyde”
“Les Miserables”
“Tomfoolery” (the songs of Tom Lehrer)
“Baby”
“Rent”
“Assasins”
“Into the Woods”
“Sweeney Todd”

There are, of course, others, but those are off the top of me 'ead.

I can’t believe I had to go through 23 posts to find Oklahoma! Wally, yer a man after me own heart, ye are.

Esprix— I love Chess, too. People think I’m nuts when I compare it to Gilbert & Sullivan.

But still, it’s no Florodora. Or Very Good Eddie, Oh, Kay!, or Miss Innocence, or Mr. Bluebeard . . . Guess I’m just an old-fashioned girl.

Les Miserables

Pippin

Oh course, I’m only familiar with maybe a dozen musicals, tops, but I still love Pippin.

Runners-up: Cabaret, West Side Story and Damn Yankees.

…but when you get blue, and you’ve lost all your dreams, there’s nothing like a campfire and a can of beans!

Many of my favourites have been mentioned, so I’ll put in a plug for

Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

Catherine Deneuve is wonderful, the songs are great, and the story very moving, with one of the most poignant endings in a musical I’ve ever seen.

Time to earn my sig. line:

Rocky Horror Picture Show

The rest:
Beauty And The Beast (Disney animated version)
South Park, Bigger Longer, Uncut
The Last Unicorn
Grease
South Pacific
Sound Of Music
Little shop Of Horrors
Little Mermaid

The Inquisition part of History Of The World, Part One

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

I have many favorites as well, but the top ones right now are:

Man of La Mancha (got to see the Raul Julia version in DC. Ooooo…)
Phantom of the Opera
Jesus Christ Superstar
Guys and Dolls
Les Miserables
Godspell

And I too like a lot of the Disney musical movies…especially Aladdin.

I’m partial to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I have to watch it at least once per year.

Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

Damn! How could I forget Little Shop of Horrors??? Fantastic musical. Suddenly Seymour(sp?) comes into my head at least once a week.

Les Miserables is definately my favorite. I saw it on Broadway and completely fell in love.

I also really like mosty Disney productions,The Sound of Music and The Wizard of OZ.
