What's your favorite musical?

Yep, I gotta add to my list as well.

Little Shop of Horrors and RHPS.

Oklahoma is ok too.

I like it here-can I stay?
And do you have a vacancy for a Back-scrubber?

Oh man…I hate to be the first and probably only one to mention this, but: Newsies. Loved it! Oddly enough the music from South Park: BL&C reminds me a lot of it, so if you liked that you might give it a try.

All my others have already been mentioned, I think:

Oklahoma (I’m just a girl who caint say no!)
Music Man (Lida Rose, I’m home again Rose!)
Hair (Don’t put it doooooown!)
Aladdin (I use antlers in all of my decorating!)
We did both SOund of Music and My Fair Lady in High School (pit orchestra, here) so I’m pretty much sick to death of them. And the dentist I work for plays Andrew Lloyd Webber all damn day so I HATE anything by him. Sorry!

Now there’s nothing unexpected about the water giving out; “Land” is not a word we have to shout.

My list of favorites in no particular order (except maybe West Side Story being my all-time favorite):

  1. West Side Story
  2. The Pajama Game
  3. Guys and Dolls
  4. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
  5. The Music Man
  6. Grease

BTW, this thread caused me to go home at lunch just to get my cd for “The Pajama Game”. No I have something to listen to this afternoon.

::singing::

I know a dark secluded place,
A place where no one knows your face,
A glass of wine, a fast embrace,
It’s called Hernando’s Hideway!
Olé!

Lemme put some songs in your heads:

Guys and Dolls: Nathan, you promise me dis you promise me dat…

King and I - Shallllllll WE dance…

Sound of Music - High on a hill was a lonely goat herd…

Music Man - Maaaaaaarion. Madam Librarian. What can I say, my dear to make it clear, I love you madly madly, Madam Librarian…( I love Robert Preston.)

Singing in the Rain Moses supposes his toeses are roses, but Moses supposes erroneously.

On the Town - New York New York, It’s a wonderful town, the bronx is Up and the Battery’s down. The people ride in a hole in the ground.

**My Fair Lady ** I’m gettin married in the morning…

Beauty and the Beast - Be Ouuuuur Guest, be Ouuuuur guest! Put our service to the test. Tie a napkin round your neck cherie and we provide the rest…

AIGHHHHHH. Now you’ve done it. I want to go out and rent them all and half the video stores don’t carry most of the really good ones.
:::::::weeping:::::::::::::::

I can’t believe no one has mentioned “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Ok, it’s kinda sexist, but some groovy songs.

I think that’s Beauty and the Beast, vogue.

I like it here-can I stay?
And do you have a vacancy for a Back-scrubber?

Phantom of the Opera
Pirates of Penzance
Papogano I hope I’m close on the spelling.
The ears are as high as an elephant’s eyes…

In no particular order:

Man of LaMancha
West Side Story
Hair
Pajama Game
Guys and Dolls
Sweet Charity - Hey, big spender…Spend little time with me!

I love “Guys and Dolls.” I was even in it once. Of the ones that were mentioned that I’ve seen, I like them all. Other all-time favorites are:
Man of La Mancha
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Chorus Line (although I’ve only seen the film)

Oh, I could think of so many…

I love 'em all, but my favorites are 1) West Side Story, 2) The King and I, and 3) Cabaret.

D’OH! Of course it is! (I bought both soundtracks at the same time and they’re intermeshed in my mind, lol.)

Now there’s nothing unexpected about the water giving out; “Land” is not a word we have to shout.

Sweeny Dodd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers
The Music Man
Guys and Dolls
On The Town
Showboat
Oliver!
My Fair Lady

Those are at the top of the list, but I love just about all the movie-musicals they made in the thirties to early sixties, whether they were Broadway- or Hollywood-born.

Two years into it I decided I didnt want an acting career. sigh What was I thinking?!?

Having shared my top ten already… here are other favorites that are truly obscure - I will be quite amazed if anyone even knows 'em!

[ul][li]Good Time Charlie[/li][li]Wildcat[/li][li]King of Hearts[/li][li]Working[/li][li]Sunday In the Park With George[/li][li]Passion[/li][li]Aspects of Love[/li][li]Pacific Overtures[/ul][/li]

I wouldn’t consider “Sunday in the Park with George” to be obscure. And Passion was on PBS about a year ago or so (my brother has the tape).

Aspects of Love and Pacific Overtutes I haven’t seen but have heard of. The others are beyond me.

This has reminded me of a couple on my more obscure favorites:

The Secret Garden

Once On This Island

“My mind reels with sarcastic replies!” - Snoopy

Bricker! Welcome back and Happy 1000!

I will not celebrate meaningless milestones.

Probably every show I ever played in the pit for has already mentioned, except for one of my favorites, Once Upon a Mattress. Definitely the funniest show I’ve played or seen. Best music has to be West Side Story, both for playing and listening.

I played The Jester in my college production in 1987.

“My dad was debonair, and quite as light as air…”
