Horlicks. Mmmm… warm, malty goodness.
Wawa’s Iced Tea, lemon flavored. Mmmm good.
Ginger Beer.
It’s not beer. It’s not ginger ale. It’s not supposed to be bubbly. But, good Lord, is it spicy.
Homemade sorrell is also slammin’.
Pink Lemonade is my all-time favorite.
Snapple.
Fruit punch or lemonade. The lemonade is good and strong.
Water, by a long way.
Followed by:
Grapefruit juice (unsweetened)
Pineapple juice (unsweetened)
Fresh lemonade (very lightly sweetened)
Hmm, a theme develops.
Iced lemon tea
Sweet tea, sweetened with Splenda[sup]TM[/sup].
Used to be teamonade, or ‘Arnold Palmers’, as JavaMaven calls 'em. But I’ve given up the lemonade as part of my diet, the core element of which is: drink no calories.
bowert, I can be a bit more specific on the ‘recipe’ for sweet tea. Here’s how my wife, who’s southern all the way, makes hers:
- Go to the store, get a box of store-brand 100-count tea bags. (We use Food Lion’s, but pretty much any will do.)
1a) Have a clean 2-qt. pitcher handy. - Put maybe 1-1/4 to 1-1/3 cups of water in a teapot or pan. Put in 4 teabags. Heat to a full boil.
- Allow to cool until it’s merely warm-to-hot. Pull the teabags out. Pour the tea into the pitcher. Stir in 7-8 ounces of sugar, according to taste, until fully dissolved. Refrigerate.
(Making sweet tea with Splenda, btw, is exactly the same, only you use pourable Splenda instead of sugar.)
Oops. Make that:
- Allow to cool until it’s merely warm-to-hot. Pull the teabags out. Pour the tea into the pitcher. Stir in 7-8 ounces of sugar, according to taste, until fully dissolved.
- Fill the pitcher up the rest of the way with cool water. Refrigerate.
Knew I left something out.
Coffee!
or a real mocha milkshake.
I’m such a Yankee. I like unsweetened ice tea with lemon.
Peppermint herbal tea. Mmm. It also helps settle my stomach a bit when I’m not feeling well.
Dear God yes (drooling), but if you’re not in Jamaica for Christmas you can get a bottled sorrel syrup at a good international grocery to make your own with.
My other fave is ginger lemonade. There’s a hippie-healthfood juice company that makes some… I forget the name.
Good luck. Lemme know how it works out.

I’ll chime in for sweet tea as well. punha often refers to it as “tea flavored sugar water”. (the yankee bastard)
Raspberry Lemonade and regular lemonade are always good.
And when it doubt there’s always water.
Thanks RTF. I messed around with it last night, and got a version that my boyfriend liked, although it could have used more sugar. For myself, I was thinking about trying it with aspartame instead of sugar, but I think I’ll try the Slenda instead. It seems to work better with heat.
Boyfriend and son were happy though, and are quite willing to be my guinea pigs while I mess with the concoction!
