What's your favorite office chair?

I sit for hours in front of this computer in an office-style of chair that costs $60.

I’d LOVE to spend the dough ($700??) to get an “over-stuffed” office chair. Those are the ones that have super thick padding for people that weigh 450-lbs.-plus (which I don’t) and are as comfortable as heck. The reason I don’t have one is because I took in an abandoned cat (which I don’t regret doing) and she’d tear it up badly with her claws. This cheapy I’m using has a molded back on the back side (where she’d get to it) made of plastic, so my cat has no interest in scratching it.

So what brand and style of chair do you use which you find comfortable sitting in for long stretches of time? And how much was it? (I may want to buy one one day  )

How about the other extreme - a non-stuffed chair such as the Aeron? We’re in the midst of replacing 1000 chairs in this building as $700+ each was deemed cheaper than the workers comp claims and reduced productivity from backaches.

Only issue I can think of would be whether or not the cat would enjoy scratching on the mesh - it’s pretty tough stuff, though.

Several years ago I went to a store that sold the Aeron and I didn’t like it. It was waay too flimsy with all those knobs and joints for adjusting the thing. Plus that plastic block thingy that is used for the lumbar support was hard as a brick. (I mentioned this to the lady salesperson, and now recently I’ve learned that they don’t have that hard thing there anymore, they’ve made it softer.)

I would never want to pay that much money and have the kitty scratch it!

I still think those overstuffed seats are fabulous, or at least they look like they are.

I hate the Herman Miller chairs we have at work (old, with the lumbar brick and the circulation cutting seat option). Used to have one on which you kind of kneeled, no back support, I liked it but not for 50 hours a week.

Office DepMax had an “executive” high backed fake leather for about a hundred fifty (5 years ago) that was great! Loved that thing, but it’s gone now.

I worked at a place that bought all its employees Aerons. They’re great - never too hot; adjustable to complete comfort. Great chairs, they are. Whatever chair I have, it has to have working hydraulics because I need the chair high for my long legs.

Check out these beauties

Actually, Herman Millers Aeron with the seat and back made from a thin “screen” sort of fabric that really breathes. This is the first chair I’ve ever had where I don’t get up with a damp butt and back after I’ve been sitting for hours.

I was given a choice of colour for my new office chair at work. I chose ‘Spinoza’ so I could feel intellectual when I sat in it. It turned out to be charcoal grey.
