The Beatles and Costello’s tie in my book. (Though the Costello song is pretty scary when you pay attention to how obssessive it is.)
The one by Savage Garden. No foolin’.
I’m ashamed (ok, not really) to say that this is the one I think of, too.
I like the Cheap Trick “I want you” as well (especially the cover by, I believe, Save Ferris).
Costello’s definitely wins. It’s so deliciously twisted and masochistic.
Yeah, I dig this too. (I think Happenstance is inconsistent, but this part’s good.)

Yep. Only thing I have against it is that it goes too fast for me to properly sing along.
#1 - Elvis Costello
#2 - Bob Dylan
I love The Beatles, but “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” isn’t one of my favorites.
I was hoping I wasn’t going to be the only one in this thread
I’d have to pick “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” by the German thrash metal band Coroner. Mostly by default, since I’m not at all familiar with the other “I Want You”'s mentioned in this thread (except Cheap Trick.)
Wumpscut’s Das Will Ich.
For me, it’s Costello and Etheridge at the top of the list; they’re both great songs of obsessive love.
I agree. It’s basically a 90 second song idea padded out to eight minutes.
