What's your favorite song on your least favorite album by your favorite artist?

Band: The Jam
Album: The Gift
Song: A tie between Ghosts and Running on the Spot
Artist: Peter Case
Album: Six Pack O’ Love
Song: Never Comin’ Home
There are plenty of my favorite artists who’s best albums are behind them that still come up with an occaisional gem…

Band:Metallica
Album: Black Album
Song: Of Wolf and Man

Band: Megadeth
Album: Cryptic Writings
Song:Use the Man

Fav band: Pink Floyd
Least fav album: Atom Heart Mother
Favorite song: Summer of '68. Perhaps the only time Wright has the best track on an album (although he comes close on A Saucerful of Secrets, also not one of my favorite Floyd albums.)

Band: Within Temptation
Bad album: Enter
Favourite song: Jillian(I’d give my heart…)

Band: Beatles
Worst Album: White Album
Best song: Something

Favourite band: Concrete Blonde

Least favourite album: Their latest album, Mojave. By far.

Favourite song: Himalayan Motorcycles - sparse, dark, and very harsh, but just gorgeous. Really intriguing. The album also has a wicked cover of Ghost Riders In The Sky, where Johnette really lets fly.

Yippee-i-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

As I’m sure the hordes will be along to point out, Something is the first track on Abbey Road.

Rolling Stones - Aftermath - Paint it Black (obvious)
Led Zeppelin - Presence - Nobody’s Fault But Mine
Nick Cave - Nocturama - Rock of Gibraltar
Radiohead - Amnesiac (hey you have to pick one) - Knives Out
Sigur Ros - Von - Myrkur
The Wedding Present - Watusi - Gazebo

And “Come Together” is the zeroth track?

Freak Out is your LEAST favorite Mothers album? That certainly goes against the majority view – not that there’s anything wrong with that!

Here’s mine:

Favorite band: The Clash
Worst album: Cut the Crap
Best song on Crap: This is England

Ooh, good one. Same band, same album, but I’d pick “Strange Currencies” as the best track. It’s one of my favorite R.E.M. songs, actually.

Favorite band-The Clash
Least favorite album-Sandinista
Favorite song-Junco Partner/Version Partner

Favorite band-Violent Femmes
Least favorite album-New Times
Favorite Song-4 Seasons

Oops. Does it help that Come Together is dead to me?

Are you sure you did that right? The Black Album is your least favorite Metallica album? What about St. Anger, Load, or Reload, or have you not heard them yet?

I wonder if you did least favorite song on favorite album. In that case the correct answer is My Friend of Misery.

  1. Steve Goodman
  2. Hot Spot - (I’m still convinced that his label held a gun to his head and forced him to release this overproduced debacle.)
  3. Talk Backwards - one of the very few redeeming factors.

Band: Skinny Puppy
Album: Too Dark Park
Song: Shore Lined Poison

Band: Misfits
Album: Wolf’s Blood
Song: Bloodfeast

Band: Duran Duran
Album: Pop Trash
Song: Somone Else Not Me

Two near-favorites…

Band: Radiohead
Album: Pablo Honey
Song: Creep

There are a couple of very good tracks on this album, but I’ll give Creep the nod over Blow Out, Thinking About You and Stop Whispering because of those chainsaw guitar noises.

Artist: Tori Amos
Album: Strange Little Girls
Song: Time

Tori’s concept for this album was something like “female artist covers songs written and performed by men, and reinterprets them from the point of view of female characters.” Usually, I think it’s good that the album concepts Tori has in her head don’t totally translate to the recording. But this album doesn’t really stand on its own without the concept. Unless you’ve had it explained to you, you probably wouldn’t know that was what she was doing, and even knowing, it seemed to me that very little of it came across in the songs. Sort of a problem. But she performed her version of Time (originally by Tom Waits) on Letterman a week after after September 11th, and it remains one of the most powerful musical performances I’ve seen.

I don’t really consider Cut the Crap to be The Clash, so:

Favorite band: The Clash
Least fav album: Sandinista (might have been one of their best if it had been 2 discs instead of 3)
Best Song: Washington Bullets or Kingston Advice

Band - well, I don’t have a single favourite, but Oingo Boingo’s right up there (and who I’m listening to today), so, I’ll go with them.
Album - *Dark at the End of the Tunnel *- not a bad album, but rather weak by their standards. (Cool cover, though.)
Song - When The Lights Go Out - it and Flesh and Blood are the only songs on the album that aren’t terribly forgettable, and I like WTLGO better.

Favorite band: Guided by Voices
Least favorite album: Earthquake Glue
Favorite song on that album: The Best of Jill Hives

Oh…now I understand the game. Me dumb. Me not fully understand game. Me think it about best song total and worst album total.
