What's your favorite song or music remix???????

I like remixes better than the originals in most cases. I have like a thousand remixes.

I like all genres of music with the exception of country and western (and stuff like that): I like rock, pop, r&b, new wave, classical, jazz, opera, rap, dance, house, progressive, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, cutting-edge, almost everything.

And I like all types of remixes, whether it’s a classical slant on a rock song, some type of drawn out vocal slant, dance/house/electronic/club on a rap song, just one instrument redoing it, a cross of songs, everything.

I prefer women’s voices, too . . . like Madonna’s, Stevie Nicks, Roberta Flack, the singer from Four Strings, especially female singers who know how to hit the high note in the progressive slow trance genre, and certain opera singers.

If you have a really cool remix, female or male, that you’ve come across, post the songs or the music and the person who did the remix. I’d like to look it up. (And I’m sure other people would, too.)

And if you know any country or western songs that were remixed and you think are pretty good, post that, too. (Show me what I’ve been overlooking.)

Thanks. . . .

Can’t think of a favorite right now, but I always liked this cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Um, I assume you are allowing covers as well as remixes, right?

Actually, what you are describing aren’t remixes. A remix uses the original tracks and, well, remixes them. You’re describing recordings that are new and different arrangements of older songs. They aren’t even covers, really (but that’s a whole other discussion).

That said, I’m a big fan of groups like Hayseed Dixie, Big Daddy, and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, that do radically different arrangements of classic songs. It’s hard to choose a favorite, but I really like Me First’s take on Sunday Morning Coming Down.

Excellent. I like it.

(Covers, remixes, new takes . . . whatever.)

Thanks.

My two favorites from Ke$ha’s remix album I am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance:

Chuck Buckett’s Veruca Salt remix of “TiK ToK”

Dave Aude’s remix of “Your Love is My Drug”

Not true remixes as Doug K points out, but close enough for me.

Come Together by The Beatles

Remix by David Starfire
Remix by Sircular

10 or 12 years ago I did a bunch of remixes of people like Madonna, Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, etc. and some of those I think are better than the original songs. I know they’re still online, but the streaming quality is terrible and the mp3s require registration, so I won’t bother linking to them. Maybe someday I’ll take the time and make some quicky vids for them and then post the youtube links here.

I kind of like Ke$ha. But you do realize that there are other people who create music, right? You seem to be somewhat narrowly focused.

Some 90s throwbacks:
The single remix of Arrested Development’s “People Everyday” is way superior to the album version.
Most people remember Ice Cube’s “Today Was a Good Day” from this version, but this remix was the one my local radio station played and that I bought on the maxi-single version of “Check Yo Self”. The remix is much more fun with superior samples; I think the original’s moodiness undercuts the sentiment of the lyrics.
Of course the line between “remix” and “recut” is so thin in hip-hop; the hit versions of songs like “One More Chance” by the Notorious BIG and “Ignition” by R. Kelly are technically remixes of album tracks, but have very different lyrics.
