What's your favorite spider?

Saw my first tarantula of the season a couple of days ago; big, docile, mostly harmless, out looking for a date.

So very jealous. Positively dripping with envy.

We don’t have any here in southern Australia, and those up north are the Old World ones, so not quite so docile.

Mine too. Spiders are creepy. I live in the middle of the woods and am exposed to waaaaay more of them than I care for.

That said, I used to play with granddaddy long legs (that’s what they call them in these parts) when I was a kid. Well, playing may be a bit of an exaggeration. I would pick them up by one leg and wave 'em around.

Was gonna post the smiley-face spiders, but I’m not suprised someone beat me too it.

I like garden spiders. They’re yellow and black, have neat markings, and make pretty webs. Daddy long legs and common house spiders are fine by me too, since they eat bugs and don’t bite.

I prefer this one.

Rainbow crab spiders are pretty cool, though this one looks like an orb weaver rather than a true crab spider. I love crab spiders in general. They are ambush hunters that usually live on flowers and take on the color of the flower they inhabit. They are very retiring and are best seen with the aid of a dentist’s mirror, so you can look under the petals of the flower where they like to hide.

Acanthoscurria geniculata

This is one of them. I don’t have a fave because I like so many. http://www.blockpub.com/pages/rainbow/RWbook2c.html I like the shape and the colors.

The beautifully colored Thomisinae. Spiders that are all over white, green, yellow or pink to better hide in a flower and pounce the insects that visit the flower.
