What's your favorite sword?

i just want to know- what IS your favorite sword?

do you like the grace of a Katana?

perhaps the artistry of the foil and rapier?

or maybe the skill required to properly wield a broadsword?

or could the “beat-it-over-the-head-with-a-big-slab-of-metal-until-it-is-very-very-dead-ness” of the greatsword be more to your taste?

what is your favorite sword?
when you name a sword, please try not to be too specific; just stick to a type of sword, and maybe a simple discription of its form and function.

I really like those ornate broadswords. They’re frickin’ cool. I like they way they weigh 45lbs. too. Unfortunately, I don’t own one. Maybe when I’m rich.

I’d have to say a scimitar. Elegant and deadly looking, plus the curve always reminds me of an evil smile.

Excalibur. But remember to dry the handgrip before using.

Lightsaber. I said it first.

For looks, it’s hard to beat a good flamberge.

Terminus Est.

I like katanas and rapiers. Not only do they look really good, they also suit my weak, skinny arms. There’s no way in Hades that I can swing a broadsword around (well, I can swing my youngest cousin around, but not quickly enough to block someone else’s little cousin…)!

Smallswords also suit me. I’m pretty quick on my feet, and I can duck in and out with only a lightweight, sharpened hunk of steel to slow me down.

Of course, were I up against Courgan, I’d take huge amounts of steroids and use a hedge trimmer.

Sabre. A little heavier than a rapier, so chopping is an option, but not so curved that the thrust doesn’t work.
Thrusting is more fun

You couldn’t have asked an easier question, or one to pick my spirits up more quickly at the end of a long workday.

My top three are:

Katana: two handed power that’s graceful enough t obe effectively wielded one-handed.

Rapier: Elegant, fast and offering a great balance (NPI) between aesthetics and function

Cutlass: All business, but also elegant when used correctly.

I think I’ll be doing kendo drills tonight…

The gunblade from Final Fantasy 8.

There are too many different kinds of rapiers to quantify in any meaningful way here. Suffice to say that I rather like early rapiers, which employed body avoidance just as often as blade parries.

I also like the sidesword, or spada da lato.

Finally, the late 19th century dueling sabre really does it for me.

I do duelist fencing in the SCA, so I am bound to answer Rapier.

The Bloodsword, from Ronin (it’s a kind of daikatana).

I have three sowrds. My favourite is a 3-foot, long-diamond cross-section broadsword I got in the 80s. The most meaningful is my father’s Naval Officer’s Dress Sabre. I like the grace of my reproduction katana.

I used to have a c.16th Century wakazashi. I wish I still had it.

If you are asking generally, a genuine Katana is my favourite. I like the grace and the history of the instrument.

“Shit” and “suck” are my two favorites.

I’m partial to a good strong claymore, the kind that are about the height of the person swinging them. Not having particularly strong arms or pocketbook however, and not being in fighting trim at the moment, I tend to fight Florentine, with a long sword main droite and a cubit main gauche.

While they’re not strictly swords, I also love the style of the naginata.

“I see you know Butt Fu.”
“Butt Fu?”
“Yeah – so watch where you’re swinging! That’s my butt, foo’!”

The vorpal sword.

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

(On second thought, maybe a handshake is more appropriate.)
