The family and I are camping in beautiful Sandusky, Ohio this weekend and plan on spending a lot of time at Cedar Point. So what’s your favorite thing to do here? I guess I’ll leave it open to both rides & shows at Cedar Point, and other attractions in the area.
One of my wife’s fondest memories of coming to Cedar Point as a child was eating fried cheese, so we’ll definitely be doing that if they still sell it.
My daughter and I can’t wait to ride that giant coaster, whatever it’s called. I’ve heard it’s excellent.
“That” giant coaster. The Magnum? The Millenium Force? Maverick?
All record beaters, for tallest/fastest/steepest each in their day. (I think also the Mean Streak was also the largest wooden coaster at one point). There are 17 rollercoasters at Cedar Point, as well as numerous carnival-style “thrill” rides.
I usually skip the Mean Streak (kills my back with the rough ride) as well as Iron Dragon and Disaster Transport (boring and tame). I dig the old school coasters, like Blue Streak and Gemini - you can ride them over and over with virtually no line. Raptor is still one of my favorites!
At lunchtime I always drop in “Town Hall” Museum of Cedar Point for a look at the Park’s history. They have some scale models of the coasters which are also cool.
The Raptor and the Millennium are my favorites. I try to hit them first and last. And the Demon Drop. But it isn’t as big of a thrill as it once was.
What kid in the mid-west doesn’t know “enjoy your stay at Cedar Point, America’s Rockin’ Roller Coast?”
Sometimes it just marveling at how nice the park is and how much it has changed since I was a kid.
We went there when Frontier Town was just starting to be built up with rides. I remember riding the Gemini when there was an hour wait. Going to the Corkscrew a year or two after it was built too.
We were there two years ago. I think the park isn’t as clean as it once was. Probably due to economic factors.
Going to Cedar Point as a kid and with my kids are some favorite memories.
Are you staying in Sandusky or Put-In-Bay?
We stayed in P-I-B (on Middle Bass? Island). I didn’t realize what a party spot the campground there is. We rode the ferry back to camp about 9:00 and the waves were real choppy. The crew was cleaning the puke off the deck before we got on. Ahh the memories.
My parents took me and my sisters there a few years ago. I did not like the park at all. Sure, it has lots of rollercoasters. But not much else. My sisters liked it, but for me the park had no atmosphere. It was like a giant parking lot with rollercoasters in it.
Bush Gardens Williamsburg is my favorite park. My second favorite is Knobles, which is a local one.
I also lost my glasses on one of the rollercoasters at Ceder Point. That kind of ruined it for me as well.
My must-do list at Cedar Point is to ride the bumper cars over and over again, eat a frozen banana, and then wait for my kids while riding the Merry-go-Round near the front gate. I’ll sometimes ride the Cedar Downs racing merry-go-round, and work on overcoming my fear of heights (and my dislike of walking) by taking the Overhead Tram.
I’ve always enjoyed the water raft ride with the waterfalls-basically it’s a sort of roulette as to who gets soaked and who stays (mostly) dry-tons of fun. The water park has some of the highest and fastest water rides in existence.
We all have our preferences. To me, BG-Williamsburg is one of the most uniquely silly places on earth. I was in the theater dept at William & Mary, and I’ve been behind the scenes at BG-W quite a lot, perhaps it spoiled the magic of pretending I was in a very cliche’d version of Europe. Worst of all, they don’t have enough rollercoasters.
The Raptor is to this day my favorite all time roller coaster. Not sure why, it’s not the fastest or tallest or longest, but it’s just my favorite.
I doubt it is still there in it’s old theme, but the Outer Limits RC at Kings Island Cincinnati was my favorite “themed” coaster, even though you could ride it 25 times and never really tell everything that was going on inside the building.
There is no finer coaster anywhere than Millenium Force. So, I would say that I spend most of my time waiting in line in Sandusky/Cedar Point.
But it’s totally worth it. And, when you get hungry, exit from the lake side of the park, and have a nice lunch at the restaurant on the pier. Pretty good food, okay prices, but it’s nice to take a break from the crazy park atmosphere and enjoy lunch on the lake.
