What's your guilty pleasure?

Animation. Starting from South Park, to Bugs Bunny (early stuff, before Chuck Jones ruined it), to artsy-fartsy Animation Festivals. Been going to Spike & Mike’s Sick & Twisted Animation Festival since it started. Dying to have Cartoon Network on my cable system. Whenever I get a chance, I also watch Nickelodeon for Real Monsters and Rugrats.

Going out to dinner to very expensive restaurants that I know we really can’t afford, but the BF & I save up for a month or two, just to put down $200 to $300 on a dinner at one of the top-notch places here in L.A. Ok, so I like to say *“it’s reasearch” * but we know better. I like having my butt kissed by waiters, while they bring me amazing food served on fine china and wine in real crystal. It makes me feel like a goddess.

I don’t do this anymore. Actually, I never did. I pretended that I was the dinosaur, and destroyed them.

I don’t do that anymore, either. Another stupid thing I used to do (can’t call it a guilty pleasure because I don’t still do it) was setting up the plastic soldiers.

Except I wouldn’t set them up in battle formations. I’d set them up in football formations and run plays.

Quit looking at me like that.

Sunbathing.

I know its bad, but it feels sooooo good. I get nice and warm, all my stress melts away, I relax fully. I experience profound euphoria and later, I sleep more evenly and soundly.

I am one of those people who is always cold. I keep the heat at 78 degrees in the winter and the AC isn’t set to come on until 80 degrees the only reason it ever comes on at all below 90 degrees is because naturally my husband is just the opposite, but fortunately, I’m bigger.

In the winter, I go to a tanning salon - its the same, but it’ll warm you to your bones and it always makes me happy.

What a naughty monkey.

  1. trashy novels (Jackie Collins, bodice rippers, etc.)
  2. my 1970s Barry Manilow album (I still sing along)
  3. I love Disney World: every fake rock and tree and manufactured emotion.

I like the rain thing, Purplebear. I love to dance naked in the rain. It is just hard to find the privacy to do so, but it is such a refreshing feeling

I pick zits. My zits, my husband’s zits. I love it and fortunately he has hours and hours worth of them each week.

I felt really guilty about it until 1) His zits in general lessened in severity after I started this and get much worse whenever i am away for more than a few days and 2) his doctor admitted that I was probably helping him over all.

Still I feel guilty that I enjoy something that causes him pain.

I do the zit thing on my man’s back. It has gotten better. I try to clean the area too. There is just something so satisfying about picking and picking and picking. Maybe it is an anal retentive thing, but it is godd to do.

I’ve heard that some people like to “crank the hog”, whatever that means.

I read comics almost religiously.

I watch Dawson’s Creek.

I love dancing in the rain too Nika (and yes, naked where possible).

Let’s see… running with scissors, swimming immediately after eating, unprotected sex, abstaining from seatbelt usage, falling asleep while driving on the interstate…

oh yeah, and I need three drinks just to fall asleep at night… but that’s more of a necessity than a “pleasure”.

I read “geek” books, (ie technical manuals) to teach myself practical, yet totally useless stuff.

So far, I’ve learned to: talk with ATC and the tower in an airplane, do my own plumbing, machine and weld metal, navigate solely on UTM coordinates, put a satellite into space, do my own household wiring (haven’t burned anything down yet  ), call for an artillery fire mission, make beer, build a radio for just about any frequency, and make beer in my house.

So who says electrical engineers don’t have a life? Just remember, you can’t spell ‘geek’ without a “double-e”!

Another thread here reminded me how much I used to love to watch Doctor Who. I attempted to share this guilty pleasure with some of my friends, and they have been whispering behind my back ever since.

Unfortunately, our local station quit carrying The Doctor many years ago. I’m going to save my pennies and buy the entire Tom Baker series-I saw it at the local video star last weekend! Whoopeee!!!

Scotti

I have mentioned this before, but my current guilty pleasure is listening to my Christina and Britney CDs over and over again and singing along really loud. That’s about as wild as it gets for me right now.
