What's your most and least favorite amusement park ride?

I guess I’m the only one on here who digs the Zipper. (Unless I missed something.) My wife hates it, though.

Together, our favorite ride is the Octopus. We could go on that all night. Too bad to hear it’s a death machine.

My least favorite ride, because there isn’t a chance in hell you’d ever get me on it, is that little capsule thing that’s launched into the air on big bungy cords, and bounces around randomly at great height. I piss my pants just looking at that SOB. I can’t imagine what I’d do if I were forced to go on it: barf out my skull, probably.

I’m a roller coaster kind of guy, and I prefer the wooden ones. I like the classic looks and it seems to me there is less jarring. The Tilt-A-Whirl is fun, but getting less so as I get older. The headaches get worse each time but it might be because we are spinning more. I sit on one side (much heavier) with my daughters in the middle and we can really get it whipping around.

Anyone else ever been on a ride that got stuck when you were on it? It happened to me once at a small carinval on one of those rides with the seats on a big disk that spins on its center that tilts at about a 45 degree angle. The first few minutes were OK but after 5 minutes or so I was ready to get off. Some guy climbed underneath with a hammer and was banging on things down there (from what we were told). After about 10 minutes they got it stopped. It was NOT a pleasant experience.

Aerosmith rockin rollercoaster - MGM studios Disney
FAST coaster in the dark, slingshots you to start, and goes upsdie down and everywhich way.

Power Tower - Valleyfair MN launch either launches you UP into the air ala ejection seat, or shoots you down, you choose

Virtual Space Mountain - DisneyWorld arcade thingie… Design your own roller coaster then ride it in one of those sim thingies… Especially scary since we designed ours with a ton of upside down thingies andm y shoulder thing didn’t secure, made it though about half of it before I hit the emergency stop to bail

Favorites are anything that swings, and the water rides, except the ones that stop and go straight down, hate that ‘throwuppy’ feeling in my stomach. At Six Flags here in Atlanta, I love the Thunder River ride when it’s really hot, which is usually is!

Dislikes, anything that jerks my neck. I wish I liked roller coasters, since I have two sons, and I’d dearly love to keep my oldest son company when he wants to ride, wouldn’t it be neat to have a product that makes you * like the ride? *

It’s a bad sign when you see that the crew for the ride has the hose, mop, and bucket in the ready position at the controls.

Hey all, great replies. Good stories! “The Felcher”…Eve, you crack me up! I swear, some rides make you feel like you’ve been squicked, if nothing else. Ever seen old footage of the rides that Coney Island had in its early days? Straw hats flying everywhere, mostly with beaus still firmly attached…

Went to Carowinds with my best friend yesterday and had a very good time indeed. Nothing especially funny happened, though, unless you count the random teenage girls who passed me and seemed very enamoured with my Docs and camos (and I’m female - go figure). Rode the new coaster “Top Gun” and was quite impressed. It’s one where you’re sitting but not in a car - your legs hang free and the seats swing like crazy. Most of the time I couldn’t tell if I was upside down or not. Starts with a huge high outside loop and even takes you underneath the sidewalk and through a dark mist tunnel (shades of ‘The Felcher’!?). We also rode the Hurler (nice wooden coaster) twice. Didn’t get on the new splash coaster because the line was too long, but it looks all right.
Anyhoo, that’s my report, not much to do w/ my OP, sorry. And please keep the stories coming!
Cheers,
R-n-R

The new splash coaster really isn’t worth the wait. I wasn’t too impressed by it. The Hurler is much better and whenever I go, there isn’t much of a line.

The Best: The Teacups at Disneyland. You get a couple of big, strong guys in there to turn and by the end I am a limp rag from laughing so hard. I don’t know why I get such a case of the giggles. I guess because when you’re in the cup, you’re facing everyone and can see their expressions. It’s very interactive (on rollercoasters, I feel a bit alone despite whoever is sitting next to me).

The Worst (also from the folks at Disney): You’d have to shoot me and put my corpse on the car to get me through It’s a Small World. Even then, I’d probably try to crawl out.

Two rides worthy of mention.
First, the new ‘Goliath’ roller coaster with a 255 ft inital drop and reachs top speed of 85mph. Rode it twice over the weekend and blacked out on one of the turns both times. WOW.

Second, The Dive Devil. It’s kind of like a bunji jump. You are harnessed, attached to a cord, pulled via cord to height of more than 120 feet and then you pull the ripcord. You freefall for about 80 feet till the tension in the cord kicks in, then you sway quickly back and forth over amazed onlookers!

Pretty kewl!

Let me preface my reply with my problem with amusement parks.

I hate standing in line for an hour or more.
I hate being hot.
I hate sweating.
I hate the way my feet feel after being on them all day.

I’m probably no fun at amusement parks.

But I do like the ride that’s like a giant baby swing. It has a wooden seat and you swing around.

And the best thing about it is this ride has been around for years so there’s never a long line to get on it.

Oh–and I also like the swinging pirate ship ride.

Well, at Six Flags Magic Mountain here in So Cal., my favorite is still Viper. I have yet to go on the recently opened Goliath. I’ll have to go sometime this summer.

Now, as for my least favorite, I agree with the OP about any of those “spinning” rides that use centrifugal force to pin you to the wall. I just never liked those rides.

I’m not fun to bring to amusement parks because frankly, they usually don’t amuse me that much. I guess it has to do with the fact that almost every ride in the world gives me violent motion sickness. Roller coasters aren’t bad but just the initial feeling before riding one fills me with so much fear that I have to be dragged on by my toenails. I’m really thin and I never feel totally safe in rides, as if I’ll fly out of the ride’s seat. I guess that’s another fear factor for me.

I quite liked the Tower of Terror at Disney World. It wasn’t scary but just the drop that makes your stomach go into your throat felt neat.

I know you guys will think I’m weird, but I absolutely love spinny rides as long as I don’t ride them ten times in a row. Give me a Tilt-a-Whirl or Gravitron any day.

The Logger at Kennywood is nifty.

Gotta love Ferris Wheels. I love stopping on the top and looking out over everything. But if you’re some jerk that insists on rocking the seat while on the top, I might just have to kill you. :^)

The Gravitron is enough to makes chunks rise out of my stomach…
