What's your poison?

Not bad, but I prefer Powers. And, although I like it neat, I’d rather sip it. More time to enjoy it that way.

Colorado Bulldog.
1 shot vodka
1 shot kahlua
milk
splash of coke.

It’s like an alcoholic milkshake.

Frankenheim Alt.

Black and Tan.

Guinness.

Rusty Nail.
1 1/2 oz Dewer’s
1/2 oz Drambuie.

Now I want a drink.

A wet and dirty gin martini.
2 ounces Bombay Saphhire gin
1/4 ounce Martini
1/4 ounce Olive juice

Shaken, strained and poured over a sizable pile of big, tasty olives.

I rarely drink due to medical problems, but my old reliable was vodka with whatever was handy.

When I was in Cancun and had that all inclusive, drink whatever you want whenever you want pass I drank a lot of tequila, kamakazees and bahama mamas.

Caipirinha (brazilian mojito)
2 oz. Cachaca (Brazilian Sugar Cane Brandy)
1 Lime
1 tsp. Sugar

Hoo boy. Great stuff…

Barring that though, I stick with Southern straight up diet/lime back or
Murphys Irish Amber. Best of the ambers IMO.

I have discovered I know only two ways to drink: A very little, or a lot. And hard liquor punishes me if I drink a lot of it, so now I don’t drink it much at all. Margaritas with Mexican food of course, but that’s pretty much it.

But my poison is beer. Beer beer beer. Mmmm, beer. I can still drink enough to embarrass myself, but without spending half the next day with my head in the toidie.

A pint of numbers, as one asks for a Kronenbourg 1664 in the pub where my office colleagues and I go after work. But if I happen to be in a place that has Belgian beer, only De Koninck will do.

When I’m poor, it’s “Ewan Jameson” or some such similarly named whiskey in a square bottle with a black label that’s trying to look like Jack Daniel’s. Not bad stuff, but identifiable in a comparison. I could easily see a shady bartender pouring this stuff into a JD bottle and getting away with it.

When the budget is normal, I’m drinking regular JD.

When I find $30 on the street, I run off and buy Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel. It’s too nice to spoil with any mixers.

When I’m really, really lucky, I stumble across three bottles of Single Barrel marked down to $10 each from $33 or so like I did last month. Whoohoo! Guess the stuff was too hoity-toity for the grocery store’s usual clientele.

Moral to this story? It pays to poke around the shopping carts stacked with discontinued spirits now and then!

[ul][li] For shots…salt, tequila, lemon[/li][li] For blender drinks…margaritas or thin mints (Mudslide mix + vodka + Rumplemintz)[/li][li] For beer…Newcastle, Boddington’s, Yuengling, Rolling Rock[/li][li] For wine…strong reds[/li] For sure…Strongbow Black (Strongbow Cider + black currant syrup)[/ul]

In a bar: w/re beer, if there’s a hoppy India Pale Ale on tap, I’ll default to that. Ohterwise, amber ale on tap. w/re booze, very wet Bomaby martini, straight up with olives. There are several places in Atlanta with extensive wine by the glass offerings, and I’ll try whatever the red of the day is, but I tend to linger with the friendly bordeaux (usually cabernet).

At home: India Pale ale and Bombay martinis. In the winter it’s Markers Mark as an everyday bourbon; Blanton’s for special occasions. When the weather heats up and I’m sitting outside, I enjoy two oz. of Patron Anejo tequila with 1/2 oz. cointreau and 1/2 oz. Rose’s lime, all shaken until very cold and served up in a martini glass with a wedge of lime.

I’ll also have the occasional bloody mary. I like a Pimm’s and soda when the weather’s hot, too.

Yes, I’m fond of my beverages!

Bacardi and Coke, with a splash of orange juice if the bartender forgets to leave room for the Coke. Garnish with Stoli O lemon drops or Tequila.
