I used to be all about the Cosmopolitans. But after a while the fruit juice just got in the way of the booze! Now it’s a dry Belvedere martini, for me, with three blue-cheese stuffed olives, if you got 'em. Mmmm. It’s your drink and your appetizer all in one!
I just made myself a Manhattan, because I was curious and I’d never had one. Not bad, but it’s not something I’d order often.
If you’re the cocktail type, what do you usually order, and why?
Old Fashioned. I’d say 85% of bartenders don’t have a clue how to make them. But well done, it’s nice, flavorful, refreshing, and gets you seriously fucked up.
Usually either a Gimlet or a Greyhound. I’ve been experimenting a lot lately, however. I’ve had a lot of success using Barenjager (a German honey liqueur) with a number of mixers. So far, orange juice and Red Bull (not together!) have been the best.
Vanilla vodka and cranberry-raspberry juice is lovely as well. I’m considering picking up a bottle of Doc McGillicuddy’s Vanilla Schnapps and seeing if that improves it a bit.
Oh, and gin with 7up and a healthy squeeze of lemon juice is quite good. It has a name, which I’ve forgotten.
I much prefer good wine or beer, and being a rather abstemious sort even the word “cocktail” jars. (I’m a happy near-hermit.)
For other moments requiring liquid refreshment:
gin and tonic
scotch and water; soda is okay for giddy social moments
Bloody Mary: celery salt, lime and tabasco required
Ooooh, that sounds yummy. I’m a hard cider person, myself. But I do like a mean Long Island Tea on occasion. I also enjoy Raspberry Stoli with lemonade.
I’m a beer drinker. I sometimes, though, have a Finger Me Good (it’s actually a shot, but I order doubles on the rocks so I can sip it). Equal parts Crown Royal and Butterscotch Schnapps. MMMM Candy in a glass.
I’m trying to figure out whether the typo makes this more or less funnye*.
Myself, I mostly order vodka gimlets when I’m boozing up: they’re not too sweet, and they have the loveliness of limes. Homemade are best, since they use fresh juice, but they’re not too bad at most bars.
Long Island Iced Tea.
Booze-wise, it’s great value for money.
Harvey Wallbangers, Black and White Russians all have a special place in my heart as well.
But my ultimate, lazy day in the sunshine drink is a Bacardi and Coke with a slice of lime. Technically, as a spirit and mixer I don’t think it counts a cocktail, but I love them, as it reminds me of my first holiday with irishfella.
Duty-free rum and cokes in Gozo… Heaven.
