Along with 12% of the U.S. public, I’m Next Generation Left.
Generally young, well-educated and financially comfortable, the Next Generation Left have very liberal attitudes on many issues, including homosexuality, abortion, the environment and foreign policy. While overall supportive of an activist government, most are wary of expanding the social safety net. Most also have relatively positive views of Wall Street’s impact on the economy. While most affiliate with the Democratic Party or lean Democratic, few consider themselves strong Democrats.
I’m cool with all of that except the last five words. I am a strong Democrat.

Solid Liberal. Same as I’ve always been. I doubt very many people change much in the course of living. Maybe we’re born the way we are ? Reagan said he hadn’t left the Democratic Party, in the 1950’s. It had “left him”. Still trying to figure that one out. Not the question ‘why’ he’d switched parties; the notion that a group can be said to have left an individual. Odd way of rationalizing his decision. He did much the same throughout his presidency. Iran/Contra, for example. Charming man. Dunce.
The political parties really did shift a lot during Reagan’s lifetime in many important ways. The republicans started courting the racist white majority of the south, for example. The democrats started strongly appealing to civil rights, and minimizing states rights in favor of a stronger national government.
Along with 13% of the population I’m a Young Outsider.
At 67 I wouldn’t have described myself as a young anything. But the brief description did seem to hit in the area of my beliefs.

True enough. When Reagan was poor, he was a Democrat and his family lived with the aid of the “gubment”. When he started to become rich he switched to the party that befits wealth. And during the HUAC hearings, he ratted-out his fellow actors and became an asshole, then a governor, and, finally, a shitty president. His presidency opened-up the floodgates of Greed in America and created a military that strained our budget and loosed our CIA to run wild, creating more world problems than it pretended to address. As a president he was a complete failure.
I thought the questions were quite good. Why do you sound as if you’ve gotten a bad medical report ? You wish to be more conservative, but your conscience (?) gives you away. I doubt you’re as “solid” as the quiz says. Real liberals aren’t shamed by progressive ideas. Welcome !.. alas.
