What's your screen name origin?

First initial, middle name. I’ll go ahead and give myself a

But it also has a deeper meaning, in that it was one of my dad’s many nicknames for me. There were others that I contemplated using, but this was the easiest to explain, and some of them were weird enough I knew I’d get asked.

“Cal Meacham” is th name of the hero in “This Island Earth”. I have a weakness for sf movies, and especially for bad sf movies and ones from the 1950s. I’d have taken “Clayton Forrester” (the name they gave Gene Barry as the hero in George Pal’s “War of the Worlds”. The character isn’t named in Wells’ book, by the way), but MST3K beat me to it.
I only WISH I looked and sounded like Rex Reason.

But the real reason I took it was that I liked the character in the original book by Raymond F. Jones. He conmes across as a better character – not nearly as cardboard and stiff. And the book is infinitely better than the flick, which seems like a collection of sf cliches.

So, if you’re the BigGiantHead, andI wear a size 8 hat, what does that make me?

He is a character from “Shadows of the Empire”. He exudes pheremones that make him irresistable to women - I can dream can’t I?

When I was younger I threw myself head-first into the worlds of Greek and Roman mythology.
I also read a lot of Heinlein, and the character “Hamadryad” was mostly a bit-player…but she was staggeringly beautiful and utterly unaware of it. since I was utterly unaware of any staggering beauty in myself, well…it was more of a hopeful choice than anything else. You know…“She’s gorgeous, and she doesn’t know it, so MAYBE…”

As a side note, I’ve had this online handle since 1985. Not bad. So if you see any other “Hamadryad”-s out there, they are impostors.

ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!

i’m a deeply spiritual type of guy. became a Buddhist at a midpoint in my so far short life, and then left that to practice Falun Dafa instead, all because i felt the need to heal my soul. sounds a little strange to most, but it means a lot to me, so my soul is in a sling so to speak. constantly in the healing process.

Well, my first name is Zev and my last name is Steinhardt, thus my screen name is Zev_Steinhardt.

Although, ironically enough, it’s not the initial screen name I wanted. I tried to register as Brass Wimple but I was never able to get the confirmation link to work. Eventually I gave up and registered as this.

My first name is Luke. Luke backwards and lowercased is ekul, but that sounds incomplete. So I’m xekul. x, because aekul and bekul and cekul don’t sound quite as nice.

I have another nick, Androgynous Mind, and it comes from a Sonic Youth song of the same name.

There’s this movie I like…

My handle comes from my late cat, Greyson, whose name in turn came from the fact that he was grey. Everybody thinks their pet was the best ever, but you see, he really was. Even if he did push those casserole dishes off the table to get to the sweet, sweet roasts inside. The ‘3’ is for singularity purposes.

Entirely self-explanatory.

You see, Jason is my first name, and Ronald is my middle name. The 32 is just random.

Need you ask? I am the all-powerful Andyman! Here to fight crime and punishment and all sorts of really long books!

…I’m sorry, I’ll leave now.

I got my screen name actually from the title of a new song by the band, A Perfect Circle, but after doing a little research, I found that Orestes is also a character in Greek mythology. He was the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. All in all, he led a very interesting life.

Olentzero is the Basque version of Santa Claus. He eats smelts and can drink 250 gallons of wine in one sitting. Gotta admire that.

Hey, **Kiva**…

When one of the guys I work for says “(insert real name here), could you take care of this for me”?

I tell them “That’s Missy to you!”

They laugh.

I don’t know why. It’s really rather stupid.

Mine was from some graffiti spray painted all around my hometown.
No, it was not written by me, but when I started doing all things Net, lo these many years ago (coming up on 10), I needed an alias I’d remember easily, so I thought of motorgirl.
I haven’t lived there since 93, but I can still picture it
scrawled across the side of a house on the way up State Street (near the junction with Stewart or Eddy, can’t remember which). It was also in most of the Collegetown bar bathrooms.

I’m disgustingly sweet, eternally optimistic and perpetually cheerful.

A veritable “ray of…”, if you will.

I guess mine’s pretty self-explanatory, as well. ;D

However, I also often use “ngwalme”, which is a word (and a letter) from Tolkien’s Elvish, chosen for three reasons:

  1. It means “torment” (what - like that doesn’t tie in with Dogsbody?)
  2. I didn’t figure anyone else was using it
  3. It was the name I chose for my AD&D character when we needed undercover identities. When the other players found out what it meant, well…I was stuck with it. And the jokes. I now own a bear in a chainmail bikini and a “bondage bear” due to this name. Sigh.
