My first initial isM and Blackwell is my last name. Creative aren’t I?
Actually my name can from a college buddy. My real name is Andy (duh!) and when he’d see me he’s sing “The Andyman!!! The Andyman can!!!”
BTW, I love Smeghead and Wonko the Sane’s names (being a Dwarfer and a Hitchhiker). Playing games online lately I’ve been going by Broomfondle, & I think I’m gonna change my SDMB name to it.
I had a college roommate with the same name as mine. To keep us straight, I somehow picked up the nickname Sparky, and he was Dippy (I definitely got the better end of the deal). For online purposes, I just shortened it to spark (lowercase = lazy)
In addition, I am a huge South Park fan (think S. Park)
My sig? Obviously, I’m an Eliot fan, and it takes the edge off all this stuff
Suffice it to say I get a kick out of it when Spiny Norman and I post to the same thread.
(pops head over edge of screen, roars in menacing basso profundo): DINSDALE! DINSDALE!!
I tend to store energy if I am not needed. When everyone else is tapped out of energy or ideas, I got some in reserve and save the day.
Read a book when I was a kid about Queen Anhksenamun (Tut’s wife). Her (fictional) handmaid was named Hanofer. Thought it was pretty and unusual. Means ‘beautiful brows’ in Egyptian.
Huh? What’s the question?
skuggi is the icelandic word for shadow. i always liked the look and sound of the word, and if i ever got a horse or a dog, this would be his name. [skuggi is a masculine noun, and, therefore, is only suited to be used with male animals imo.] I added the s’s and i’s because it made it more interesting. [note: i choose nto to capitalize in this post b/c i am lazy.] this is also a sn i’ve been using for a while on aim and my email service.
“First name”
Okay, so back in the day when I first started on-line (1992, I think), I had to pick a screen name (naturally) and I was primarily getting on-line to chat with Monkees fans. I was also a new vegetarian and very interested in the animal group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Well, if you’ve ever watched the Monkees, you’ll hear Davy Jones pronounce my favorite Monkee’s name (Peter) as Peta (Peta is also the name of said AR group and the feminine form of Peter), so it seemed a good choice.
“Last name”
At my first Doper gathering in DC (before I even posted here) we were joking around about something, Satan said something and I responded along the lines of, “no tsunami with a z!” (The joke being, of course, not only does it not have a z in it, but it starts with a t.) I liked the joke, so I took the name Tzunami.
The Dopers I met encouraged me to post (nearly threatened as I recall)…and really wanted me to post as “Phil’s Wife,” but both Phil and I thought that wouldn’t be a good idea…so I used my usual screen name, Peta, with Tzunami. Ta da!

Well, when I was trying to think of a name, I wanted a subtle Beatles reference
In Yellow Submarine, the Beatles are recruited to save Pepperland. Pepperland, is also of course, named after Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. So, it’s a double reference. I added girl, because, well, I’m a girl
I got AOL five years ago, when I was a freshman in high school. My boyfriend at the time already had it and his name was “Taco4Barry” (his name was not Barry though). So to be cute, because we were so in love and adored each other so much (ech!) we wanted matching names. So I picked Nacho4Sara, even though I don’t like Mexican food that much. It stuck, and I kept it even after I finally kicked AOL’s ass. The relationship lasted a month, but the name shall live on forever (he got rid of his much sooner.)
Well… here’s a story…
Screeme (also sometimes seen as screeme18-- 18 being my birthday, or screeme602-- 602 being a random #):
Short answer-- Screeme=sportscreme… but I made a typo and added the extra E. (plus I took out the “ports”)
OK, you’re begging for the long answer, I can feel it.
Picture if you will, a young boy of but 14 years old, playing in a city baseball league. Our first baseman, Bob (not his real name ) used to get sore muscles in his leg, so he could carry around a tube of sportscreme with him at games. (I don’t know why, but we always teased him about the bottle.)
Warming up for a game, our third baseman threw it over to Bob… it short hopped him, bounced up, and hit him right int he nads. And HARD, too. (Did I mention that Bob also never wore his cup?) Well, he’s writhing on the ground in pain… and I chime in from the dugout… “Yo, Bob… Put some Sportscreme on it!”. My teammates erupted… and ever since then they called me sportscreme. Which got to be emberassing at school and stuff… so we shortened it to screeme. (pronounced “scream”)
There, now you all have the story in your heads and you’re stuck with it! Besides, It was gonna be “stouffers” (I’m also know as “topher” and some friends pronounce the S at the front). But how interesting would that be?
Screeme
I was preparing for the worst scenereo Y2K.
I wanted to know if gas line antifreeze would be an acceptable fuel for an alcohol stove that I have. I started searching on the web and ran into a site where some guy named Cecil Adams was commenting on a fuel additive. I went to his web page and found SDMB. Before I could post a question they made me join. All this because I JUSTWANNANO about gas line antifreeze.
My MB name should be fairly obvious, neh? My online name for ages, half my life in fact, was Dracandros… a cookie to anyone who guesses where that one came from. (Hint: It has to do with nasty blue things.) My current one is Shiro, after my fave RP character, and also a tag-along nephew in a delightfully twisted book… anyone care to take a stab?
I always thought it was because it was your job description back when you did porn…
WAG: Wasn’t Shiro Samurai Cat’s nephew? It’s been a loong time since I read that book. I can’t even offer a WAG about Dracandros.
I’ve always been a big military history buff and my favorite has always been the Roman Empire, particularly late BC early AD.
Thus my name comes from the Legio X Gemina (10th legion Gemina) who was Julius Caesar’s favorite legion and with him during the conquest of Gaul.
I remember thinking I want a short name so people will remember me easily. Meanwhile, there was this program on TV showing people residing/renovating missile silos from the Cold War. And that’s where the name Silo came from. I didn’t realize the phallic reference till I had the name awhile–oh well.
