For myself, never. Maybe if I lived somewhere with a tropical climate, I’d warm up to them, but I don’t like them here in Chicago. They are worn by enough people here, but they just look goofy to me.
My father wore one under his suit for my sister’s wedding, at her request, rather than a shirt and tie.
He was required to wear a collared shirt at work. He didn’t have to wear a tie, and he really hated wearing plain white oxford shirts and he really doesn’t like polo shirts, which would have been acceptable. He also hates long sleeves. He wanted to see if he could get away with the Hawaiian shirt, and he did. We got in the habit of buying him nice Hawaiian shirts for his birthday and Christmas.
I have one like the first one shown–only in a red-orange. I never really thought of it as a Hawaiian shirt. I don’t know how you could think a pastelish color on off-white was loud.
The problem with Reyn’s shirts is that they are sized about a size small. Nice designs, but you’s think a shop that catered to tourists and Hawaiians would size large, not the other way around.
I see the title about Hawaiian shirts, and last poster is - silenus! All is right with the world. Well, it was, until I posted.
