When are the new $100 bills coming out?

In October 2010, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing realized that they had printed some unknown number of the new $100 bills with a fold in the paper and that it would cost a ton of money to reprint them, and a ton of money to sort through the ones already printed to find the flawed bills. So they suspended the planned February 2011 release date.

I haven’t heard anything else about it since then, and can’t find any information online. Does anyone have any information on when are the new hundreds coming out now? Never?

Doh. Of course, I last Googled for this over the weekend and haven’t posted the thread until now.

The BEP posted an update yesterday.

I had a shock when I saw the thread title, and thought this was going to be about the new Canadian $100 bills, which are supposed to be unveiled sometime soon. Coming out in November.

Thanks for the link. I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Now if they could revamp the one dollar bill. They don’t have to add all those fancy security features of the higher denomination bills; just update the artwork. Frankly, the one is just plain ugly compared to the other bills. If they won’t get rid of it, at least pretty it up a bit.

Yeah, get rid of those nasty sharp corners and make it rounder, and thicken it up a bit so it’s stronger. And maybe make it a nice golden colour while they’re at it…

And instead of just having Washington’s picture, have pictures of all the dead presidents.

And HERE’s the final design!

Ridiculous.

It’s totally off-center!

Well, turns out they will finally be releasing the bills on October 8, 2013, more than 2 years after I wrote the OP.

I know this is almost two years old now, but … is it just me, or does that signature say “Dark Vader”?

Well, yeah… you wouldn’t want to violate any copyrights, now, wouldya?

“Luke, I am your dollar.”

The North Koreans already have the template and will begin cranking the new $100’s out this summer.

Er that’s a 2010 article from a conspiracy website. The author is a creationist who discussed this weekend whether submission was needed for a healthy marriage. And the article appears to address 2008 events: I can’t find the source of your claim, though I may have missed it.

Not to mention the article claims the fake bill was found when the person paid their federal tax in cash… after withdrawing it from a bank.

I… um… why wasn’t… you know… a check used? And where does one go to pay their taxes in cash anyway?

The wiki article on supernotes mentions North Korea as a possible source of counterfeits. This guy is sure it’s the North Koreans based on an interview done on the Christian Broadcasting Network.
