When did Chrome start having a built-in 'tab' header

Maybe I’ve somehow missed it, but I’m pretty sure the ‘tab’ feature at the top is new. At least I noticed it now for the first time.

By tab feature I mean there is now a header along the top of the browser window, between ‘People’ and ‘Window’ labeled ‘Tab’. It lists all open tabs and eliminates the hassle of trying to remember what’s open where. Easy now to go back and forth between them. Very nice.

trying to picture what your describing.

So at the top of my chrome browser window there is
tab labeled SD and the name of this thread then a + for opening another tab sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide clear over to the other side of the screen and there are the buttons to minimuze, maximize or tile/cascade the window(s) and X closes the window
under that is back forward refresh home naaaaaaaaaaaavvvviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttiiiiiiiiooooon bar, some online image tool called “gimp”, windows account login button and the vertical ellipse menu

that’s they way it’s always been

If I have a window with just one page open (i.e. NO tabs), I’d love to not have that space at the top of the window taken up. I swear there used to be a setting “Always show tab header” that you could turn off, but now it’s always ON.

F11?

I’m trying to imagine the types of madmen who only have one tab open.

I have no “People” or “Window” let alone a “Tab”. Maybe you have a browser extension? Firefox has a down arrow that lists all tabs, not my Chrome.

Yeah, I don’t recognize the OP’s description from any version of Chrome I ever remember using. I keep hoping someone will come along and explain what he’s talking about.

I use the OneTab extension in Chrome to list all my tabs. i also have about 10 open at any time. Maybe he means OneTab?

I don’t see anything at all like that. I am running the most up-to-date Version 78.0.3904.108 (Official Build) (64-bit). I do not see anything labeled “People” or “Window” either. Here is what it looks like.

I am not using any extensions to account for it so wondered whether this happened in a recent update.

What I am referring to appears as one entry in the horizontal row at the very top of the browser. I have a Mac so there’s an apple at the upper left. Then to its right, in order, there’s File, View, History, Bookmarks, People, Tab, Window, and Help.

When I click on tab I see the entire list of open tabs (with their full name displayed) and can click on any one to go there. A big help when you’ve got 30 or more open.

That is exactly how OneTab works but I am not using a Mac. I see what** CookingWithGas** sees except the leftmost tab is labelled OneTab and has the list of 23 other pages.

I am guessing this is specific to the Mac implementation of Chrome. Always good to mention the platform in post #1 when asking about an application issue.
