Chrome browser question - how to go back to last viewed window

Thanks for reading on - the title of my OP doesn’t really capture what I was asking.

If you are like me and often have 10, 15, or more tabs open, I think you’d agree that it can be a nuisance going back and forth among the tabs. Is there a shortcut to help you do that?

Let’s say, for example, that I have 15 open tabs in Chrome. Call them 1, 2, 3, . . . 15.

If I was viewing the webpage under tab #4 and then I go to tab #11 and the page there, is there a shortcut to take me back to tab #4?

Thanks!

With Firefox one can use an extension to reopen tabs — it’s a little red cross icon — and leftclicking on that will list all recent tabs, from which they can be opened. I imagine Chrome will have something similar. Otherwise click the Options icon on the Chrome toolbar at the right and under History there’ll open up a list of recent tabs.

Doing that gets you the correct web page but at the ‘expense’ of opening a new window/tab. So, not only does that increase the number of tabs you have open, but the new one that’s been opened by going the History route won’t have it’s own ‘window history’, i.e. when you open it, it’s the first and only item under that tab and that tab’s history. (I hope that makes sense)

You can use this extension:

Or another one like it. Push Alt-Q to jump to your previous tab, regardless of where it is in the tab order.

Thank you! That is exactly what I was after. Much appreciated!

ETA: Installed and working like a charm!
