OK, the animated roll eyes is only in Chrome. IE still has the Smurf-sucking-an-Altoid rolleyes.

I checked Chrome plug-ins, nothing smilie-related there.

And, back on the topic at hand, bigT had a post in the original thread with instructions on installing a GreaseMonkey script that replaces the new smileys with the classic ones. Installing it was actually quite painless, on Firefox.

Sorry that there’s a pixel that’s off on the mouth, but I couldn’t fix it in time, and I don’t want to spam the thread with images. Just manually change the “pixel” to the right of the upper right corner of the mouth using the WYSIWYG editor mode (the button in the upper right of the quote box).

I’ve played around with making it smaller, as well. I’ve gotten a version down to 18 characters wide (without black border), and one down to 20 characters wide (with the black border).

But, again, I don’t want to spam the thread. Maybe I’ll use 'em some time, or you can PM me if you really, really want them.

I also can edit the script to just make :dubious: and :smack: fit in better with the new pastel icons.

Yes, I’m a nerd, and I was bored. My Internet connection is being screwy lately.

It is Rule 3 of Web Design: Always make web pages worse: Make them uglier, less functional and with more irritating ads to encourage people to install adblockers. Going back is never an option. Bonus points if you make every single bookmark anyone has for anything other than the homepage go 404.

All of the new emoticons are just terrible, but the roll eyes one is simply unbearable. Every time someone uses it, a little bit of humanity dies.

njtt, hit “quote” before doing the copy-and-paste. You need to copy the color codes, not just the characters.

This, fersure. (What are rules 1 and 2?) I don’t know about Facebook getting worse and worse (since I never use it) other than the galaxy-shaking shitstorms I read about every time they tweak it – but the same is true for that major web mail service that begins with the letter Y, which I’ve largely abandoned using. I don’t hear a lot of complaining about them any more, apparently because so many people have just given up on it.

I like our old roll eyes picture, but it’s huge though? I had the bright idea to reduce it to a smaller size, but it’s already set to size 1. I can’t have a fauxmoticon that is 10x the height of my post. Is it just me?

I think the little guy looks even meaner, making the original look a bit whimsier. And, yes, I had to hand tune those pixels. There’s no simple way to widen or shrink pixel images while not making it blurry.

You can use this site to make your own images, but, if you want them square, you’ll have to widen the image by a factor of 5/3 yourself.
