When/did you get "the talk"?

You left out an important qualifier in the fragment you quoted.

I never really got “the talk” as school taught me about puberty a few months before I got my first period (and luckily so, as my mom wasn’t talking). My pediatrician had told me about the physical changes of puberty before they started happening.

I will share the words of wisdom my mother did share with me:

-On me getting birth control: “Once you go down that road, you can’t take it back.”

-This one’s censored as the language is not something you want to hear from a mother (and possible TMI):

After I got my first UTI, my mom told me while we were cooking Thanksgiving dinner “Always pee after sex, cuz Urinary Tract Infections are a pain in the twat.”

-On me taking the same Human Sexuality course she took in college: “You have to pass this one. I won’t let you get married if you fail ‘sex’.”

-And the night before my wedding: “Do we need to have ‘The Talk’?” (Which my husband’s father also said to him at essentially the same time.)

The bit about “macro/social level”?

Sure, but there still seems to be a rather radical disconnect between those two stories, don’t you think?

If you read the resurrected Pit thread, no, not really. Speaking as someone who’s been sexually assaulted and had depression and sexual problems result, as well as someone who doesn’t just want to be known as “that’s the poster who’s been sexually assaulted,” I can say that the number of times I even allude to that event in the context of a more normal sex-related thread is pretty damned infrequent. She describes positive sexual experiences in that other, earlier thread.

And frankly, I think moving this discussion over there is probably best for the flow of the thread we’re in.
