That’s pretty much it.
I was squared away a week ago, done all on Amazon. I HATE the mall.
I start thinking about Christmas pretty early, and keep an eye out for good gift ideas so I can buy them early or watch for sales. I lived in Canada until 5 years ago, so we didn’t have the Black Friday thing to “open the shopping season”, so I would start shopping sometime in November and be done around Christmas, sometimes (rarely) having to scramble at the last minute. Now that I’m in he US I follow the same pattern out of habit. November rolls around, I start seeing Christmas ads on TV, I start thinking about what to get people.
I usually start a few days before Christmas, and finish up on Christmas eve.
I hate shopping.
we aren’t doing Christmas this year. It’s been a truly hellish year or both mine and my husband’s families - we’re not going to bother.
If I see something I think is right for a person, I buy it and put it away somewhere. If I have nothing for people I start buying around August/September. I am almost always done before Thanksgiving.
This year I was buying Mom a memory foam mattress and didn’t want to lug it up to her place, so I was going to have it delivered there, just before Christmas, as it turns out she is having back problems and I had it sent to her place this past Wed.
I wait until the last minute…our whole Christmas is dependent on my holiday tips, so I collect them and put them all together around the 22nd or 23rd. Then I shop like a crazy person for a couple of days.
Most of the kids want cash this year, so it’ll be a little easier. But I love shopping, and this is the only time I get to really do it without a super-tight budget, so I gotta take advantage of it.
I voted between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but my Thanksgiving is in October.
I try to do my shopping at local art markets and craft fairs. There are a few people that I go to the mall for, so I try to get that out of the way early.
All my shopping is online except for party and work gift exchanges. I start on Thanksgiving and keep an eye on all the sale emails I get. Most of what I order is easily bought online, clothes, dvds, and books.
We don’t buy much for each other - just a token simple gift for Christmas Eve and another for Christmas day.
Will usually wait until the last minute, partly because I never get around to it and partly to see how much money I have left over around Christmas.
But again - no big deal for the two of us - a nice shirt or perhaps a gadget we need. I am thinking about surprising him with tickets to an upcoming concert here in Las Vegas.
The day after. Everything Christmas is half price.
All year long. Our current record is we were out and about once on Christmas Day one time and my wife found something by accident. She bought for her best friend for Christmas one year down the road.
I am astonished that apparently 45% of us (including me) don’t do Christmas. We can’t all be Jewish. Besides, in my experience, many Jews do do Christmas.
I am usually done all my shopping by November 1st. This year I am having issues, though. It’s only four weeks away and I am only half done.
I am doing my best not to freak out.
